2 men who pepper-sprayed officers at the Capitol riot last year wept as a judge sentenced them to

over 3 years in prison

Two New York men wept as a judge handed down prison time for their participation in the Capitol riot last year.

Cody Mattice, 29, and James Mault, 30, both received 44 months of prison time on Friday, according to records from the Justice Department. In April, the two pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers during the Capitol riot, a Justice Department release says.

After breaching the Capitol, Mattice "reached out to another rioter and grabbed a small object appearing to be a canister," the release says. "He then sprayed chemical spray at police officers."

"Mault also got a second canister from the crowd and provided it to another rioter," the release says.

First, these deplorables didn’t “enlist” and they swore no oath to defend the Constitution, and there were ZERO lawful orders to be followed.

Second, they did not fight “heroically”; they engaged in the physical manifestation of an attempted coup. Full stop.

Third, if one is stupid enough to be “seduced” by the likes of Donald Trump, that person deserves every bad thing that comes their way.

At the status page of the 169 who've been sentenced. They all got fines. A good number got over two years incarceration and $2,000 fines. But every last one of them got fined at least $500. To-date there are still 341 awaiting sentencing, most on multiple charges.

to be sentenced, in total. Estimated damage to capitol is $1.5 million (which I think is low-ball, but whatever).

Each and every of these 510 failed coup attempters would have to be fined @ $3000 to cover the property damage they caused. And, that does not include the deaths and injuries they wrought.

Why, do you suppose, are they being let off without fines sufficient to cover the damage they caused?

Maybe more to the point, why should tax-payer $$$ have to pay for the damage they caused?

evidence of sufficient damages to the judge, and so the judge determines restitution, case by case. You think these are all kangaroo court rulings? I beg to differ.

Taxpayers pay for the courts to recover the damages they do. If you think judges are lowballing, then find a data link that squares with that. Have you read any official estimates of damage done by insurgents on the Capitol, or capital? You might link those to make your case for how lowball these fines are.

Judges. Doing the best they can with the evidence they get, and the law as it stands.

On Edit: Mattice is apparently in the US Penitentiary in Lewisburg, PA. Lewisburg is a legitimate penitentiary. This will not be easy time. I'm not sure if that's where he will serve he rest of his sentence.

James Mault is in prison; I haven't been able to find out where yet. They both have 3 years of supervision after they leave prison and a $2,000.00 fine.

At the request of lawyers for both Mattice and Mault, Howell agreed to recommend they be placed at low-security federal facilities, if determined to qualify.

Sorry, I want 'em to do real time at a hard joint.

You falsely sign your name to a document stating that you are a certified elector, you go to jail for a LONG time.

Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Kushner, Meadows, Guiliani, Bannon, Stone, Eastman, Powell, Ellis, Cruz, Graham, Perry, Gaetz, Gohmert, Biggs, Gosar, Cawthorne, Brooks, Boebert, Greene, Grassley, all should be looking at 20 years to life.

We will NEVER restore confidence in government if the radical Republicans are not drawn, quartered, and excised from public office.
