And what a hard-fought race it was! Back and forth, over and over, till I had to declare a tie with a run-off!
And now to declare the winner in first place:
AndyS with his poignant, faintly humorous Hello Kitty!

And squeaking into second place, Grumpy Old Guy with his astonishing bird photo!

And landing in third place, alfredo with his gorgeous photo, Senorita!

Congratulations to all these winners! What a contest it has been....
Thanks to all the entrants for their wonderful photos, and thanks to all who voted and kicked!

(156,715 posts)This was unusually complex. I've seen run-offs before, but somehow this was crazy!
Glad I could step in.

(4,354 posts)I think I can speak for AndyS when I say that we both had a great time with this contest. It was a real nail biter!
"Hello Kitty" is a perfect photo. All the elements came together perfectly for Andy. The lighting, composition, processing and subject matter are all spot on. The viewer's attention is drawn straight to those hypnotic eyes. Wow! That kitty is just too damn cute.
I spotted my osprey one morning outside my bedroom window. He was perched on top of a very tall tree, probably three stories high. I grabbed my camera with the big zoom and charged out outside. I took several dozen photos, and yes, he noticed me and was looking right at me. I often wonder if raptors are always in a mean, grumpy mood, or if their eyebrows just make them look that way. Maybe he was really thinking "gee, he looks like a nice guy."
Congrats to Alfredo for the lovely Senorita, a wonderful portrait of a beautiful woman.
Congratulations also to my lovely wife, Legger, for her portrait of a tiger at the L.A. Zoo, "hmmmm, take out for dinner tonight?"
I'll be running the August contest. Wish me luck!

(4,702 posts)The same goes to all who entered. The photos were some of the best I've seen. Thank you, Peggy for your splendid work, setting up the contest, and seeing it through.

(3,197 posts)Happened to catch the July photo winner. Other than this is a very common photo, please note that apparently this cat is outdoors. Cats should not be allowed outdoors. They are an invasive species that contributes the decline of bird populations.
The eagle picture is very nice, and the Senorita photo is lovely.
AndyS
(14,559 posts)would probably chastize me for that too.
ETA:The cat's dead anyway. Out of four in the litter there is only one still alive . . . so far.
