When Donald Trump formally declares his 2024 candidacy, he wont just be running for another term in the White House. Hell be running away from legal troubles, possible criminal charges, and even the specter of prison time.
In recent months, Trump has made clear to associates that the legal protections of occupying the Oval Office are front-of-mind for him, four people with knowledge of the situation tell Rolling Stone.
Trump has spoken about how when you are the president of the United States, it is tough for politically motivated prosecutors to get to you, says one of the sources, who has discussed the issue with Trump this summer. He says when [not if] he is president again, a new Republican administration will put a stop to the [Justice Department] investigation that he views as the Biden administration working to hit him with criminal charges or even put him and his people in prison.
Presidential immunity and picking his own attorney general arent Trumps only reasons for running again. And as he works on another run, Trump is in a tug-of-war with leaders and operatives of his own party about when to announce, according to multiple people with knowledge of the matter.

his campaigns and in the WH are all doing time in the slammer for criming to please him in a one-way "loyalty" relationship, nobody will want to work for him!
Good luck finding a VP candidate...
Unless he/she has suicidal tendencies...

(90,017 posts)Criming. The infinitive would be to crime. Its now a thing. And a special distinction in trumpworld. A hallmark.

(7,359 posts)He knew he needed to remain in office to avoid prosecution for a shit ton of criming. Previous articles had timelines that showed how he'd skate if he could drag it out another 4 years (statute of limitations).

(6,017 posts)...that the statute of limitations would run out on his crimes?
He is correct. Sort of.
That clock has run out on the first four of his crimes that were considered to have ample evidence for prosecution.
The "sort of" comes in because while a 1973 memo did say that a sitting President couldn't be prosecuted for crimes, it also said that once impeachment proceedings had concluded - guilty or not, and regardless of what the Senate did next - said President was then completely vulnerable to criminal investigation and prosecution.
Trump was impeached twice. And he was treated with kid gloves in part based on that memo. Yet the other half of that equation was apparently never read by Congress or the DoJ.

(26,257 posts)arrest all tRUMP-related thugs that enabled the first insurrection that failed barely. These people are dangerous and think that they are above the law.
I hope Garland knows this, and sends some strong signals to the tRUMP world reminding them that the rule of law is still in effect, that the Constitution still applies, that many more millions are on the side of law and order. Don't let the orange anus run again, don't let him ruin this great Country because of his desire to escape justice which he so richly deserves.

(26,009 posts)He will say that he is running for 2024 and that all charges against him are political, an attempt by Biden and the liberals to steal another term from him.
Then he can call on his followers to take to the streets to fight for democracy. His price for calling them off be a demand that all charges against him will be dropped.
To put pressure on DOJ and Congress, the street terrorism will be especially cruel.
So, I am not Nostradamus and I could be wrong. But something like this prediction is very possible given Trump's past behavior, personality and character traits, and his ties with Putin.
Justice matters.

(53,193 posts)If you asked most people who want to be president why they want to be president, they generally answer with a variation on "I want to make my country better."
Ask Ex-President Massengill the same thing, and his answer is "I don't want to go to prison for the crimes I committed the first time I was president."

(2,957 posts)I've been listening to cable news. Yeah, prosecuting a presidential candidate would be yet another, first (?) for a prosecutor to consider. Thing is, Garland knows Trump is talking about running to avoid prosecution, isn't politically motivated and preaches "no one is above the law."
Garland knows without reservation, Trump is a clear and present danger to the country. And the Fulton county DA has no fear in indicting Trump.

Or anything he's said about his Moscow Real Estate plans and love for Putin. etc etc etc etc..
He is a sociopath, for sure..but his proclivities to straight out admit damning motives certainly takes a special kind of sociopath I think.
Wonder what pscyo-analysts have to say about this particular aspect of behavior.
