"SNIP.......
Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. and Democratic Senate nominee John Fetterman is recovering from a stroke he suffered in late May, but still "sometimes struggles to speak smoothly," the Associated Press reported Friday.
The AP reported that Fetterman's campaign "acknowledges" the speaking issues and that he hasn't fully recovered from the stroke.
Responding to Insider's request for comment, Joe Calvello, Fetterman's communications director, did not dispute the AP's report and pointed to a Washington Post story featuring video of a Tuesday Zoom call in which Fetterman addressed campaign volunteers. The campaign would not say when Fetterman will resume in-person events or be made available for media interviews.
Fetterman's wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, told CNN in early June that her husband "deserves a month break to come back as strong as ever" and would "maybe" return to the campaign trail by July.

(92,382 posts)this could be a problem if John Fetterman has issues that make him look incoherent.
If that isn't the case great.
I don't know when the last day is when the Democratic Party in Pennsylvania can replace a candidate if that candidate is not able to serve as a nominee, but if they feel they cannot have him ready by that date, then there needs to be some serious considerations on what to do.
The stakes are much too high

(118,774 posts)struggles for words sometimes. She has not changed a bit other than the occasional hesitation. She's all there. Fetterman could beat Oz using only his little finger. He has a big heart. He's real. He's not trying to take rights and middle class life away from most Americans.

This has nothing to do with your family member though, and how well your family member recovered from a mild stroke.
I am not happy that AP is pushing a story like this.

(53,843 posts)a stroke and was gotten to the hospital quickly and he's now back golfing and speaking. It was a mild stroke for future governor Fetterman and he'll be back to normal.
We don't have to keep reminding voters though as this news didn't just happen.

(5,559 posts)We'd be livid if the media declined to report a similar situation with a Pub.
This is also easy to combat with recorded ads of him speaking well. If it requires an extra take or two, no big deal.

(10,839 posts)Not unusual in this situation and if it's mild, the language skills return within a few weeks or months. I suspected that might be true when I watched the man's first public appearance at his Pittsburgh campaign headquarters. His speech was hesitant and he looked mildly uncomfortable. His campaign people said he was emotional describing the medical event to the staff and I'm sure that's true. But I wondered if there was something else as well.
I think he's doing the exact right thing in taking it slowly, working behind the scenes until he feels 100%. As long as he and the campaign are transparent about what's going on, he'll be fine.

(8,386 posts)That is the professional organization for audiologists and speech-language pathologists.
You should be able to find a speech-language pathologist close to you. If you have a family doctor, ask for a referral if you havent already. You can also find remote therapists.
Im sorry if you know all this already. Signed, retired SLP.

(113,550 posts)social worker. If you are a senior, there should be senior social service agencies or groups of some kind. Check with your library and see if they carry the senior resource guide. If your phone has apps, see if you have the nextdoor app, and reach out. One's neighbors can sometimes be of enormous help.
