Why isn't another stimulus package being discussed now?

With higher costs from Putin's war , and inflation from the pandemic recovery, and corporate greed from increased profit margins, why isn't that being talked about now? People on fixed and lower incomes are getting hit pretty good, and need help, but it would get everyone past this until inflation gets slowed down.

2. Why isn't a guaranteed minimum income being discussed
Wed Jul 20, 2022, 03:42 AM
Jul 2022

Just removing the Fat Nixon and Baby Bush corporate tax cuts would be enough to guarantee every individual/family at a minimum a poverty level wage. No more unemployment or food stamps resulting in more positive cash flow in the economy via bureaucratic reduction.. Pressure taken off of SS as an in place retirement fund it was never meant to be. The ability for victims of whatever economic tragedy to get back on their feet without ending up on the street. There are more and more reasons growing every year to seriously begin embracing this type of model that benefits not just society but corporate interests alike.

Yes there are negatives to that model, but our society is at a point where the positives are beginning to outweigh those negatives. I am of the opinion that we will have to do it eventually, probably sooner than later.

3. The talking point, which a few Dems seem to agree with -- enough to stop anything from passing

given our razor thin majorities at present -- goes like: "these stimulus bills cause inflation... So if people need stimulus to help with inflation, doing stimulus would only be a counterproductive waste by causing more inflation."

[ I'm NOT saying their analysis is correct, just that that is the explanation I've seen given from some "centrists" ]

It's all but a done deal, Californians will be receiving checks worth up to $1050 per person this fall, as part of an "inflation relief" package.

They put prices up because of inflation.

No, putting prices up without good reason causes inflation.

Another argument is that wages are up, so prices need to go up.
Really?
Wages going up, you say? Not too many are seeing that, they are not moving and if they are, they are not keeping up with inflation.

Increases in profit margins have added to inflation, but also having to pay workers more to come back to lower paying jobs when so many higher earning jobs became available and pandemic worries , and less immigrants filling jobs where produce went unpicked helped drive costs higher, and higher demand in many area's where production lagged behind caused increase's. The recovery and demand came back quicker than companies ramping back up production ever imagined it would. Shipping costs also added a lot to inflation for many things when demand spiked a lot higher.

said the quickest way for them to get their hands on it was to raise prices on everything and create fake shortages.

They cleaned the back pockets of American's real fast.

I still believe that it's Corporate Greed that contributed greatly to this inflationary period we're going through.

The oil companies lost bigly during the pandemic when people isolated and didn't go anywhere. Now - the oil companies are making up for it by raising the price of gas to recover what they lost during the worst of the pandemic.

We'll never be in the range of $2.00 to $3.00 per gallon of gas again. Our new range will be between $3.00 and $4.00 per gallon. And guess what - American's will be happy with that new range - because it looks cheap after $5.50 to $6.50 per gallon.

The oil companies have successfully given themselves a raise on the backs of American's.
