To be retrieved? I guess I just think (and hope) with modern technology, there must be a way. Somethings telling me those messages are the smoking gun. Looking for a sliver of hope here.

(15,542 posts)Subpoena the agents and ask them about the content of the deleted text messages.
Agent 1: "It was to my wife, asking her to buy a 6 pack of Colt 45 when she buys the wine for that night's party."
Agent 2: "It was to my mechanic about making sure he balanced all four tires."
Agent 3: " It was to remind my kid to do his homework."
THEN - when the messages are retrieved from the carriers, charge them with perjury.

(14,509 posts)just how many smoking guns will it take? So far I think all of us could name at least five.

(1,686 posts)1. Georgia tape of the orange one
demanding votes.
2. Video of him telling his zombies to
march to the Capitol.
3. Hours of observed inaction as our Capitol
was attacked.
4. Taking highly classified documents out of the
White House and bringing them to his
private residence.
5. Fake electors directed by Rump.
6. Trying to make a foreign country (Ukraine)
interfere in an election or lose
support from the US in their fight
against Putin.
Im sure there are many more. These were off the top of my head.

(1,991 posts)He said that when he was a prosecutor for the DC DOJ that the secret Service labs were the main place that they took devices to recover data over all the other agencies available to them.
That they were so inept to "loose" all of this data and can not recover any for theses devices, I have only one comment:
BULLSHIT!!
There should be some mass firings of everyone involved in this "transition".

(912 posts)Do they mean SMS or are we talking about some other messaging app (like WhatsApp or Signal)?
SMS messages can maybe be retrieved from the carrier (though they may only store them a few days). But other apps often tout privacy as a feature, so the messages may be encrypted and are unlikely to be stored by the app developer.
Honestly, the secret service probably shouldn't be using SMS for security reasons. So if they are that would be kind of surprising.

(5,945 posts)The messages themselves should be easily retrievable from any number of intermediaries, but assuming they were encrypted the only place they would be retrievable in a useable form would be an endpoint.
