SC = South Carolina
SCOTUS = The Supreme Court of the United States
I keep wondering why South Carolina is such a hot topic when I look at the thread titles.

(52,313 posts)New York is odd in that they call their trial courts the Supreme Court.
The highest court in New York is the court of appeals

(52,313 posts)SC is an initialism because you read out each letter
SCOTUS is an acronym because you pronounce the initials as a word
Anagram is when you scramble the letters of a word or phrase, ideally into another word or phrase.

(3,732 posts)I always thought the point was to simply things, both for the writer and the reader. But I find it simpler to read and type things like Supreme Court or President than to use the established acronyms. But then again Im also the one who always says this is the dumbest thing Ive ever seen online: Someone thanked someone, but instead of Thank you they spelled it Thank u, but for emphasis they typed the u three times. So they couldnt be bothered to type all three letters in you but they can type u three times ?
