"SNIP.......
When Michelle Obama declared When they go low, we go high about Republicans in 2016, Democrats generally agreed with the sentiment, The Hill reports.
After all, the party was up against Donald Trump, a man who seemed to find joy in making personal attacks part of his daily routine. But nearly six years later, the party that pledged to play nice is fed up.
Democrats are tired of being stomped on by the opposition. They hate the public perception of President Biden as a president in peril. And the conservative Supreme Courts decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is pushing them past their limits.
Going low suddenly seems more appealing, some Democrats now say.
......SNIP"

(11,704 posts)We're fed up because it didn't work, and despite that becoming quickly obvious, they kept that crap up.
There's certainly nothing wrong with giving it a try, but you need to be ready to act quickly if it doesn't work. Because it usually doesn't.

(9,148 posts)Reagan came into office after making a deal to keep the hostages captive until his inauguration. And that was just the start of his perfidy. But he got away with all sorts of shit, just like every Republican after him, while Democrats were attacked for the most trivial of non-issues. The double standard continues to this day. Youd think that more of them would have learned how to turn the tables by now, but no.
ENOUGH!

It is not going low to talk about the GOP voting record on the issues that matter to most Americans.

(55,141 posts)I bet he turns to one of the greatest down the stretch campaigners he can find, and really ever. Obama, who brought endless energy and was always a day ahead of the news cycle. Now Obama may not be visible on the campaign trail very much, but wouldn't you use that asset?
Republicans have no gas in the tank. They cannot convert ANYONE to their positions, policies, platform (non-existent). All they can throw is fear.
Make what you want of these ideas, but that's how I see it.

(35,454 posts)according to an excerpt on MJ the number have turned in the Dems' favor. They will take themselves down. Maybe Americans have had enough of scorched earth.

(26,016 posts)Biden's poll numbers are at 36% overall and only 75% among Democrats.

(35,454 posts)and he gets no credit for all he has done...yet. But the imminent issue is the house and senate and there, the numbers favoring Dems have started to flip. Also, the media needs to stop telling everyone how unpopular JB is, it's the current meme.

(26,016 posts)The corporate media are Republican.
And that includes NPR, which takes financial support from corporations. In fact, I am so used to the criticisms of Biden on NPR, that I was surprised when a program yesterday covered the serious threat of extreme RW takeover of government. The program was On Point, and their usual host, Mehgna Chakrabardi was not on.

(4,669 posts)Rather than blasting bide to voice the message they need to be louder against republicans.
wnylib
(26,016 posts)who command attention and speak directly in terms that people understand. Those surrogates should be in the media often, pushing our agenda and comparing Republican policies in very unfavorable terms. Somebody with a good turn of phrase to hit hard on Republican lies and distortions.
These surrogates should be everywhere in the media and have a strong enough following that their Tweets and Facebook messages get picked up by print and broadcast media.
Direct, frequent slams of Republican extremism, lies, and distortions would be an excellent morale booster for Democrats and the nation as a whole. People are crying out for visible and repeatable rallying of support for democratic (small d) principles to give us hope and energy and drown out the right.
It does not have to be Biden. He has a full plate handling domestic and foreign issues. Let it be a couple of well spoken surrogates.

(17,428 posts)instead of fucking whining!
I am so fucking sick of the circular firing squad. President Biden put his boot up Retrumplicans ass in this recent speech. (see link below).
WTF do these "some Democrats" want? Do they expect President Biden to call them and read his fucking speeches to them before tucking them in to bed?
These "some Democrats" are the same ones that claimed Hillary didn't warn them enough about the fucking Supreme Court.

(29,078 posts)That all she talked about was Trump, was the "I'm not Trump" candidate and all her ads were negative. They tried to accuse Democrats in 2020 of being the "We're not as bad as Republicans, vote for us" party, with little success, but will be revived for the upcoming elections.
And accusations that nobody's talking to Joe Manchin. Biden has said it's Republicans and one Democratic senator blocking his agenda. Everybody's tried talking to him. This is the way Biden speaks to Manchin: "What the fuck are you doing Joe? Come on man" (From Woodward's book "Peril." ) But sure, Biden's totally too nice.

I prefer being in a party that isn't dependent on fueling political rage and extremism.
"Scorched earth" burns everyone.

(44,807 posts)Weve been getting stomped upon repeatedly since Reagan. Were up against literal Christfascists. Meekness in the face of far right extremism has just about destroyed this country. We cant afford to play be the old rules. The GOP hasnt for years.

(3,234 posts)We want the exact opposite.
We want screaming every second about social justice issues like poverty, healthcare, student loan debt, mass incarceration of POC, on and on and on.
No more collaborating with an enemy who wants to wipe you out from the face of the earth, literally. We're in an age with the second coming of white supremacy & fascism. Fight like our lives depend on it because for many of us it literally does!

(5,104 posts)and never has been.
The Democratic Party should never embrace this sort of populism.
Rage interferes with reason, and we have reason on our side.
We do need to get busy. But in productive ways.

(3,234 posts)From Black Lives Matter to MLK marching, loud direct action has worked.
The Democratic Party absolutely should embrace activism. And it should own the bully pulpit. The days of playing nice with Republicans is over. I just lost my rights as a woman, I don't want to hear anything "we must be nice & presentable" bullshit from the textbooks of Charm School in the year 2022.
There's literal WHITE SUPREMACISTS IN CONGRESS!

(29,078 posts)I remember that one sentence where MLK mentioned democratic socialism -- in 2016 it was posted all the time as somehow proof MLK was totally socialist and populist and therefore Democrats were (insert list of stupid insults) so don't vote for them.

(29,078 posts)1963, protest at Woolworth's lunch counter:
"'John Salter was struck down by a punch, leaving leaving Anne and Pearlena at the counter. They were smeared with ketchup, mustard, sugar, anything that was on the counter. They sat and faced the front.' They did not take ... advice to 'curse, scream, and name-call.' They were extraordinarily civil, and their actions unbelievably powerful. ... Certainly, blacks were angry, and they had every right to be. But they had years of experience and amazing leaders. And so their anger was channeled into effective action, and they ended legal segregation and won the right to vote. ... Cursing, screaming and name-calling would have turned the activists into the enemies the segregationists needed."
Steven Stoft
Anger is not a strategy. Don't be the enemy they need.
