first thing i remember seeing on tv.


houston tranquility base here. the eagle has landed

1. Everyone I knew was gathered around some TV.

Back in the day when the nation could pull together over something.

2. I was in te Army in Germany at the time. We all crowded

in the dayroom to watch it on little black and white TV. The local German community brought us two kegs of beer and food. We provided rides around the camp for the kids on APCs. Fun day.

3. 53 years ago, I was cooking chicken for The Colonel...

It was extraordinarily busy... seems no body wanted to cook for themselves.

I've always looked back on it and considered the viewing was powered by pressure fried chicken.

4. Out in the middle of nowhere but listened on my transistor radio (remember those? 🤣)

I was spending my summer as a counselor at a Girl Scout camp. Lived in tent all summer, no showers, etc. Pretty primitive. But great fun. With 2 other college students, we kept 40 10-12 year old girls busy for their 10 day stay at camp. We gathered the the girls around the radio to listen because the 3 adults felt it was a momentous moment in history.
