Republicans fret as Walker stumbles in Georgia: 'He needs help'

Anxiety is setting in among Republicans over Herschel Walker’s bid to oust Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) in Georgia after a series of unforced errors and negative headlines that have rocked the former football star’s general election campaign.

Walker, who was endorsed by former President Trump early on and went largely unchallenged in the GOP primary, has been beset for months by damaging revelations about his business record and personal life, including an admission that he fathered three children he had not previously disclosed publicly.

Walker’s troubles have been underscored by recent polls that show him trailing Warnock. One survey from Quinnipiac University released last month found the incumbent Democrat leading by a staggering 10-point margin, while a more recent poll conducted for the AARP put Warnock ahead by 3 points.

“He needs help. He needs to be much better prepared because when Labor Day rolls around, he’s going to have to be able to articulate and do it consistently and do it coherently,” said Chuck Clay, a former Georgia state senator and state GOP chair. “He’s got himself two or three months. He’s a smart guy. But he needs focus. He needs to get that part of the campaign down. A Heisman Trophy isn’t going to bring him a victory.”

It doesn't speak well of the GOP when they think a guy who was a standout football player 40 years ago and hasn't done anything since would make a good Senator.

I'd just read that study of post-mortems done on players' brains. All but one of them (out of 110 or so) showed signs of CTE. As I was reading a story on the study, I thought, "I'm watching young men grind up their brains for my entertainment." Well, no more.

Watching Herschel Walker stumble around and try to articulate what's going through his mind is very painful. He needs help, all right, but not the kind of help these cynical political operatives have in mind. If they had a sense of shame, they would be ashamed of themselves and quit this business before sundown.

too important to see him get elected, especially when Warnock is such a good guy. TFG seems determined to urge every mentally incapacitated person he can find to run for office. More proof that djt doesn't give a shit about this country.

Smart guy the mighty genius. The gop is full of them, just ask them and they'll gladly boast how smart they are.

I guess they are a little smarter than the people who vote for them, as they have convinced them to vote against their best interest.

On the surface, Walker looked good...well known, and liked, former football star at University of Georgia and in the NFL. Plus it would be a black man vs a black man race, so they expected him to get the white Republican vote and split the black vote.

Unfortunately when they opened the book, the story was a dud. Too many serious issues, and the inability to put two sentences together in a coherent manner.
I think the Republicans are having buyer's remorse.
Walker is just going to keep shooting himself in the foot, right up until the election.

Predicted result: Warnock dumps Walker for a big loss on 4th and long.
