This is what Home Depot's founder Bernie Marcus said on a conference call yesterday:
"If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs."
It's nice to know Home Depot supports the death penalty for not supporting their politics. The coming EFCA fight is going to be bloody.

I have yet to find a site that is both current and does a quick sanity check. A lot of the anti-Rush sites haven't been updated since 2008 or 2010. Shop your politics has donations from 2008, so doesn't reflect any change that might have happened in the past 4 years.
They also need to do a quick sanity check on their ratings. If you saw a company that sent 99% of its donations to democratic causes, you'd think that was great. Too bad Shopyourpolitics gives that rating to 20th Century Fox. That's right, same organization whose parent runs Fox News. While the Simpsons may be liberal, Fox as whole is not.
What is really needed is a site that:
-- Is current, numbers and ad buys no more than 6 months old.
-- Has a human do a check on the numbers. 20th Century Fox should not be listed as a democratic company. Not until the Murdoch family gives up complete control and Fox News is no worse that CNN.
-- Makes a distinction between an actual sponsor and a company who buys ads to be run at any time. A different site listed Toyota as a Rush sponsor. Their examples where 5 ads that were verified to have run on a specific station during Rush within the past week. Great! But no. These were generic national ads. You had to read closely to find that out, but even then it didn't answer the question of intent. Did Toyota just tell their advertising agency to buy ads during the top 10 shows in the market or did they specifically ask to be run during Rush? My suspicion is the former, but without a lot of legwork there's no way to tell.
I'm not picking on SYP specifically. I was trying to find out if Angie's List is still a Rush sponsor and eventually just gave up. Every site I found was dated to 2008 or 2010. Even the pages created this month referenced numbers from two years ago.
Another example. Do I shop at Lowe's because they initially sponsored that American Muslim TV show or boycott them because they caved in to protests? They should only cave to *my* protests gosh darn it.

(5,105 posts)I met him when I worked in one of his stores, while in college, in HD's early days.
Someone above said HD is like Mal-Wart. It's true. They forced thousands of family-owned hardware stores out of business. Many stayed in business, though, because the minimum-wage earners at HD couldn't tell customers jack shit about how to accomplish their projects, repairs, etc. In the early days, they employed pros in different areas, construction, plumbing, etc., but I guess they cost too much.
In the early days, all employees had to go in at 7am on Saturdays to learn about their products, promotions, etc., and employees who excelled got badges, redeemable for stock. I had maybe four, I don't recall, but I was one short of getting a share of stock. Today, Home Depot is staffed by people who are, like most, desperate for work, but without the knowledge even of their own store's departments.
