I posted this in response to a thread but I think it stands on its own (edited slightly):
Pence needs to tell the committee and/or the DOJ what the SS were telling him while they were trying to get him out of the Capitol, he needs to explain what he was doing and who he was calling (plenty of photos of him on the phone in the garage that day), and he needs to explain what he did.
It's my understanding that he did not have the authority to mobilize the National Guard but it's clear he knew no one else would make that call, and together with Milley they got them mobilized.
On some of those phone calls I'll bet he was talking to individuals about removing the orange fuck via the 25th Amendment and that's one reason he took over to mobilize the National Guard. I suspect people told him that the orange asshole sat all afternoon watching the TV with glee and Pence knew the asshole was incapable of doing a thing about the violence. Remember that Pence was a congressperson and I suspect he was really angry that the orange asshole gave the order for the Capitol attack. The Capitol is considered sacred by a lot of legislators.
I despise Pence but his actions on that day were correct. However, he is a coward if he does not testify. He should actually be volunteering information. So I suspect he is compromised and maybe blackmailed by the orange fuck to keep quiet.
Pence is stupid enough to think he has a political career left. He might still have political viability if he came out and told the country that HE was the only person acting with integrity that day, that HE acted presidential. But he's a fucking coward and he's afraid to anger the cultists.

(6,115 posts)He's a fucking coward. He was the only person acting presidential that day but he doesn't have the guts to tell us so. Shameful.

(40 posts)Until he does his duty to his country and testifies, we will never truly know.

(13,995 posts)But he is afraid of losing "the base" which he has no chance of winning, anyway.
Mother might let him tell all, after he loses the nomination and she realizes she ain't gonna be 1st. Nun.

(6,115 posts)Methinks Pence (and others) overestimate the numbers of cultists who actually bother to vote.
IMO, there are a lot more rank and file Rs who would be relieved to get their party back from the insane faction, and if Pence ran as a sane candidate who acted presidential when it mattered, they'd vote for him in greater numbers than the cultists would vote against him.
I still think he doesn't have a political career to salvage but he's killing it himself by not doing his duty to the country now. It makes him look cowardly, not presidential.

(6,115 posts)AFAIK the committee has been mulling over whether to subpoena him. The DOJ definitely needs to subpoena him for a lot of other reasons as well as regarding what he did on Jan 6.

(6,115 posts)Who knows? They may still do it. Maybe they're right now gauging the public's reaction to this latest hearing to determine whether they should. Maybe they are waiting and hoping to recover the SS texts that may make it clear what he was doing that day. Maybe they think other people will step forward so they have more ammunition. I don't know.
Maybe they don't think it's worth pursuing because he'll fight the subpoena and not testify anyway.
Who knows?

Than if he holds out for a political prize he is never going to get, in my opinion.

(8,019 posts)but I feel he did worse than enable him throughout his entire association with Trump, from the 2016 campaign and his standing by his man through every offensive and treasonous utterance and action Trump executed throughout up until Jan 6. Of course he knew what was coming I think he had a duty to warn the nation in advance. I feel he had a duty to initiate the 25th early on, and many times over.
Simply put, despite his honorable actions on Jan 6, I don't trust we'll witness the same if he should testify before the committee.

(6,115 posts)... as the sort of slimebag he - such a godly man, you know - has always denounced. I wonder if he thought early on, "This guy's crazy. It would be easy to invoke the 25th and I can fulfill god's mission and become president."
Pence has said several times that he always thought god wanted him to become president. But any true godly person wouldn't sign onto the crazy criminal express because it's supposedly everything they despise.
Poor Pence never got his chance.

(8,019 posts)has attempted throughout these hearings to rehabilitate, redeem and elevate his character just in time for 2024.
That's my suspicion. And I also believe she intends to be his running mate.
From the first public hearing, listening to her eloquent and cogent delivery, she took opportunities to point out all the good and brave character of Pence I noticed. I've been of two minds in this regard. Either she wants to run for President as an Independent, or VP with Pence for President. Maybe she's of two minds An either/or option scenario.
Then, as we will all be grateful at how well she carried out the J6 investigations, we'll be watching her leadership ascension, either as independent or gop.
This is obviously, all intuition based on a pattern of political maneuvering .
Did you happen to see her tweet in response to SCOTUS decision on Roe? To me she was signaling not just applauding.
Novara
(6,115 posts)But you make an interesting case. It's worth watching.
To be clear, Pence did the honorable thing THAT DAY. But that is ONE DAY. He spent the previous four years in service to a criminal. And his silence now somewhat negates the praise he deserved for Jan. 6. He was really only doing his job.
Given whet Cheney really does stand for, I hate heaping praise on her for the way she has handled herself in these hearings. Certainly she - and Kinzinger - deserve some praise for bucking the cult and doing what's right. But it shouldn't make people fawn at their feet because it's so damned unusual for any republican to do the right thing! It shouldn't be unusual, but here we are.

(8,019 posts)Regarding ONE DAY he did the right thing for over four years in service to an pscyhopathic monster, he gladly served.
with a fawning smile.
Yes, I don't like heaping praise on her. It just happens in this instance, I could not find fault or disagreement with a single statement delivered in the J6 Committee hearings.
But from the very beginning of these hearings, I was "hearing" speaking with an elequence combined with a certain tone of integrity that Americans have been longing to hear, and will be attracted to come 2024. They won't know or remembrer how much of war monger she is, how much she is against Women's Right to Choose, or who to Marry... I don't care that she brought women's struggle for the right to vote in the last hearing. I'll always remember how much she wanted us to bomb Iran , how staunchly against same sex marriage and condeming her own sister on that issue.
I don't know why she is blind on these issues, considering how much she's elevating Pence, i have to wonder if she is "deeply religious".
And if it is fundamentalism. some things to understand about her as she ascends to high office. and to keep in mind.
