"laughingstock" "video will surely follow him the rest of his life" KANSAS CITY STAR EDITORIAL BOARD

https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article263718073.html

Josh Hawley is a laughingstock.

During Thursday night’s televised hearings of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, coup attempt at the U.S. Capitol, Rep. Elaine Luria played video of Missouri’s junior senator that will surely follow him the rest of his life.

In the clip, Hawley sprints across a hallway as he and his fellow senators are evacuated after insurrectionists had breached the Capitol building. When it went across the screen, the audience in the room with the committee erupted in laughter.

Of course, Twitter immediately dogpiled. Hawley’s name was the No. 1 trending topic in politics that evening as users shared the hashtag #HawlinAss along with GIFs of a galloping Forrest Gump. “From now on, if political reporters ask Josh Hawley if he’s planning to run, he’s going to have to ask them to clarify,” quipped one.

I remember that paper issuing a number of schorching articles on Hawley at that time. They were absolutely spot on. calling for him to resign if I recall correctly.

I had forgotten about Hawley's Manly book. the publisher ought to be publicly shamed humiliated for agreeing to publish.

And oh by the way to Hawley fans lurking: Rights to Free Speech doesn't mean what you seem to think it means.

Hawley for totally political reasons opted to be the dissenting Republican Senator - even though at times he seemed to admit that he knew Trump lost.

If we are lucky enough to keep our democracy, that coup and the people attacking their own capitol will likely become increasingly toxic. Consider that where Democrats used the words and images of JFK and RFK and Republicans the image of Reagan and are busy trying to rehab the Bushes (and seeming to succeed especially with GHWB), I can not think of any Republican using Nixon or his words in their campaigns. Trump is MUCH worse than Nixon -- and Nixon was pretty bad.

Remember that it was not all the things like extending the Vietnam War for 5 years to get nearly the same outcome, but things he did related to the 1972 campaign that led to him being a pariah. At some point, I wonder if Republicans in general will come to the opinion of very conservative people who were 100% behind Trump in his administration that found January 6 beyond the Pale. The out for many of those testifying was to reject the narcissist temper tantrum prone tyrant while adhering to the idea that THEIR ADMINISTRATION did many many good things. ie reject Trump, keep Trumpism with someone like Desantis.

Hawley, who has seen himself as a future President may be dogged - not be a video of him running out (as his peers also had to do), but by giving that fist bump AND using that photo for self promotion.
