Have you been watching the Jan. 6 Committee hearings? I know you still support Donald Trump, and Im guessing that most Fox News viewers arent watching (in no small part because theyve limited coverage of the hearings). Well, in case you didnt catch it, you should know the following:
Remember that nice young lady I used to appear alongside on CNN before she became Trumps press secretary? Her name is Kayleigh McEnany, and she testified that during the whole time the Capitol was being ransacked, Trump was just watching the riot on TV. It took him more than three hours before he decided to call off the mob by issuing a video tweet.
I know you are a fan of Sean Hannity (though let's be honest, Tuckers your favorite). Well, we also learned that during the riot, he texted Trumps Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, urging him to have Trump put out a statement and ask people to peacefully leave the Capitol. Hours would pass before that happened. The presidents own son, Donald Trump, Jr., also text messaged Meadows, urging him to have his dad condemn this shit. ASAP.

I hope you know that I remain a conservative. As you know, your nephew is a Bush-McCain-Romney-Rubio voter. But even more important than party loyalty, is the fact that you and I both belong to a family. Thats why I felt it would be OK for me to write you this sincere and intimate note. But please know that I am not trying to tell you youre wrong or a bad personor that I will quit caring for you if you and I disagree. But I do want to be clear about what Ias someone who has worked in politics and journalism for two decades, know to be truebased on the Jan. 6 Committee hearings: There is overwhelming evidence of a crime being committed against America.
I hope you will consider this information when it comes time to select a Republican nominee in 2024. I know if any member of our family acted this way, it would not be tolerated or excused. Politics is important, but surely Trumps character should disqualify him from holding future office.
Your Nephew,
Matt

(9,674 posts)That he, his aunt and Bush-McCain-Romney-Rubio helped to cultivate and grow.
All of them are contemptible in their own way. The only redeeming value they carry now is that they are our strange bedfellows trying to wrest power from the fetid Tea Party they tried to incorporate into their political circus.
first two sentences are so true. The people they supported are the reason we have this horrid Republican Party we have today. I would add Reagan, Gingrich and DeLay to the list.

(16,785 posts)too. It's playground age mentality, but that's the base. They absolutely love it because they don't have to think. It's pablum and like going to a concert to express their aggrieved inner child rage.

(633 posts)I wish that Matt included the part about Hannity and McEnany discussing with each other the 25th amendment and impeachment. The people his aunt seems to love, talking about the 25th and impeachment in regards to Trump, would maybe give his aunt some pause!

(85 posts)Democratic voters in these 2 states are leading a movement to crossover to a Republican independent candidate and supporting Liz Cheney. If enough "Rino" voters decide "If they can support Liz maybe I can support their candidate." The undecideds in the swing districts will decide the control of the House and a lot of them are Cheney Republicans.

(6,864 posts)Dick Cheney and his clan of ninnies paved the path to this place. Here, this place where the federal government desperately clings to form in hopes to remain at all, is totally of their machination.

(12,685 posts)Liz Cheney is not a compassionate person. She is ruthless and ambitious, just like her father.
However, she is honest in her ambitions and does believe (somewhat) in the framework of the Constitution.
She is in effect, Lawful Evil.
The "evil" we know and can anticipate.
Never forget, she approved of nearly all of TFG's actions, from the border wall to his slashing of the EPA and education. She's perfectly fine with the dismantling of civil rights that are not "enumerated" if it will keep her Party comfortably in power

(85 posts)I grew up and still live in redneckistan,Arizona. 40 miles as the crow flies from where TFG was yesterday. I'm very aware of the damage a Republican administration is capable of doing. And there is no reason to give anyone a pass. Every one's saying country over party, the voters in Utah are trying to put that into practice by supporting a non-Maga independent candidate instead of a Democratic candidate that has 0%of winning. Utah families have all around the country and if we can practice what we preach, maybe enough "independent " voters with family ties to these people will get a letter like this one and decide, "if they can do it, so can I "

(15,682 posts)I hope your MAGA Aunt opens her mind. It's tough when people we love can't see things the way we see them.
Now about you. Would love to hear you have switched parties. That is all.
