(476 posts)The public doesn't give a crap. Especially in southern states.
The only thing strange is that this cop did this to a white guy instead of only blacks.

(31,131 posts)and REHIRE using new screening ruling out racists and assholes.
Doing it over a long period of time guarantees no loss of services.
Will never happen but it is the only solution.

(2,845 posts)Awhile back Camden NJ fired the entire Police Department and then rehired any who passed a screening. It was a dramatic success in both reducing crime by reducing pressure on the low level street crimes so it became better for someone to peddle a little weed without a gun. I think it also recuced the corruption where the cops support criminals and dealers for awhile then bust or murder them when it suits them, that all stopped and now their city is much safer. Newark did something similar but I'm not sure if they actually fired their force or if they just instituted new policies, which dramatically reduced shootings within their city.

Here's the sick part: Even though this cop will most certainly lose his job, he will just be able to go to another district and get the same job somewhere else next year. The only thing that can stop it is if he is successfully prosecuted for the felony assault.
I'm not always so fast to blame police when I see stuff like this because just as often as not, video is edited down to remove critical facts. But in this case, we have a suspect with his hands up in surrender, and he is awarded with a sucker-punch from a fist full of steel handcuffs. This cop is poison and undeserving of the position, regardless of what happened in the moments prior.
Minimum force is the universal rule. That rule was ignored while this cop decided to deliver his version of justice on the spot.

(82,849 posts)"It was determined the injuries suffered by the suspect were caused solely by the altercation in which he was involved prior to Officer Cox's arrival." Who determined that? How did they determine that? Did they talk to the suspect or just take Officer Cox's word for it?

(6,254 posts)races and ages. Before video it was a secret that most in law enforcement and criminal defense knew. Client after client would describe being roughed up by aggressive cops for no apparent reason. Of course, African American men were universally mistreated but I had many white suburban young people and women describe being mistreated both physically and verbally at the hands of the police. That doesnt mean all cops are bad, I dont suggest that. Im saying we are all potential victims to cops who have bad temperaments and should not be trusted to enforce the law.
