(36,371 posts)As a former foster parent, we mostly took care of children whose own parents ran into trouble, drug use was a biggey, and these parents it parent had to go through a long process before reunited with their child or children. Some of these foster parents were the child's or children's grandparents.

(9,326 posts)I believe this ruling means there will be many more differently abled people in the future. I hope the people that fight and undermine the Americans with Disabilities Act are ready for that.

(89,281 posts)Can't they just be legal guardians if the parents can't take the kids ?

(36,371 posts)It's not cheap raising a child and they are also involved in the process of reuniting the child or children with the parent or parents.
I know one couple who were foster parents for their grandchildren who ended up being legal guardians because the parents couldn't get off the drugs.

(81,539 posts)Just saying. I dont know the details of that photo. But you dont need to rely exclusively on a single photo.
Anybody hearing or seeing large numbers of people lining up to adopt? Or seated in some waiting room or other are, filling out adoption forms? Waiting around, filling out the forms and fumbling for their income statements? Any parking lots at such places or offices full of cars - other than those of staffers or other employees? Is there noticeable foot traffic in and out?
Im kinda unplugged on deep details about the surrounding realities and visuals. I would think that the insistence of anti-choice people would be all over the media - and NOT just the Pox Noise versions, but all over everywhere! Havent seen or heard any such thing.
And if Im wrong, nobody wants to see examples of that more than I do. Besides, I want to know 1) what theyre saying and 2) how theyre saying or depicting it. Thats how you build good and specific and factual retorts and rebuttals. First, youve gotta know what their messaging is.
It does no good NOT to know the facts. You need em so you can argue effectively, and your word is trusted.

(10,217 posts)The preacher gave a sermon on adoption and forced birth. The church was Southern Baptist and in favor of forced birth.
They started some kind of adoption program. I didn't pay too much attention to it. But several white families adopted groups of black children. Each of 3 families that I knew of, adopted between 3 to 5 children mostly about age 8 to 10. But at church camp, after the kids had been with their families for over 6 months, the children seemed sad and way too thin. They were shy and only seemed to talk to each other. After the 3 day camp, I was glad to hear Social Services came and took the kids away.
The rumors were that the kids were being used as field hands and weren't being educated. Each family had the young children living in separate buildings by themselves. It's not unusual to have all sorts of buildings on a farm or to go for days without seeing anyone outside your family.
Anyway, they did away with the adoption program at the church but they still preach the wonders of forced birth. Nothing happened to the families that adopted except I heard they were not allowed to adopt any children ever again.
It was all kinds of creepy.

(4,552 posts)I have a friend who has 4 children and they adopted two more. This is not an indication of over all right wing involvement in adoption. It is one family with huge hearts. They are pro life and I do not even attempt to discuss the issue with them.

(22,176 posts)Foster care facilities are still looking for tons of foster care volunteers.
All mostly to make their pathetic political points, and certainly nothing about the children being left behind, yet again.
