(9,990 posts)Each of Dorothy's accomplices has revealed a debilitating condition. One lacks courage, one lacks a heart, and one lacks a brain. It appears that these guys are all Republicans.

(1,211 posts)The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies.
You are wrong.
Dorothy's accomplices only lacked confidence, not courage, heart or brains.
The Lion had courage in many circumstances, even though he was scared.
The Tin Man was the most caring of all.
The Scarecrow is very intellectual throughout.
A great lesson is to be learned from the song that the scarecrow sings.
The words say, "I would dance and be merry " ..... "if I only had a brain"

(9,990 posts)The characters' admission of their perceived flaws and actively seeking ways to remedy them certainly elevates them to a category far superior to "Republican".
On the surface, those qualities, if allowed to stand through embraced ignorance, heartlessness, and cowardice, typify the character flaws and indeed qualifications necessary to be associated with today's Republican party.
I thought the ad was ingenious in the way humor was used to make a serious revelation. The narrative provided by Dorothy and her friends, along with Oz's series of self-incriminating snake oil pitches drove the point home!

(53,061 posts)Wonder why we haven't had any ridiculous debt ceiling votes?
Government revenues running historical surpluses because of these idiotic tariffs.
Oh and how about violating the constitution by not having the House of Representatives vote on it (see Article One)
Oh and how about certifying Canada as a national security threat so we can add tariffs to their steel exports?
Lies on lies on lies.

(33,286 posts)In September 1947, Garland joined the Committee for the First Amendment, a group formed by Hollywood celebrities in support of the Hollywood Ten during the hearings of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), an investigative committee of the United States House of Representatives led by J. Parnell Thomas. HUAC was formed to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees and organizations suspected of having communist ties. The Committee for the First Amendment sought to protect the civil liberties of those accused.[122]
