California's fast-moving Oak Fire burns nearly 12,000 acres, thousands to evacuate near Yosemite

The new normal.

California's fast-moving Oak Fire burns nearly 12,000 acres and forces thousands to evacuate outside Yosemite National Park

A wildfire raging for a second day Saturday in central California's Mariposa County outside Yosemite National Park has burned nearly 12,000 acres and forced thousands to evacuate from rural communities, officials said,

The fire, which had 0% containment as of Saturday evening, began Friday in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
....
Electricity service in the area stopped Friday at about 4 p.m. local time, "and the fire has been coming towards us faster and faster," Detamore said.

The blaze comes as much of the US has been experiencing an extreme heat wave this week, with parts of California seeing temperatures in the triple-digits.

Wildfires scorching the western US in recent years have become more common due to worsening drought conditions fueled by climate change. In California alone, more than 2.5 million acres were burned in nearly 9,000 fires last year, according to Cal Fire.

I drove through there a few months ago and was so depressed by how much was black and lifeless. After this fire, will there be any trees left?

its fire season. Thanks to Climate change, drought has turned to everything burning. I noticed the other day while driving on Sunset avenue in San Francisco most of the vegetation has turned brown (where catcus wasn't growing) until we got to Golden Gate park, they must water that place like crazy, no need for a major forrest fire in the middle of the city!
