(944 posts)For the simple reason he will kneecap any Jan 6 apologists in the race.

(10,235 posts)I've been waiting for his story about what happened with him on 1/6/22 to get more visibility.
I'm glad he's on the shows this morning. He was also on ABC's This Week.

At this point, I'm comforted just knowing some of them are decent people...

(12,652 posts)He couldn't wait to loosen Maryland's gun laws right after that last Supreme Court decision. He's angling himself for a run at the presidency and I hope he fails miserably. He's nothing like his dad.

(10,235 posts)Thank you for your eloquent feedback...
As I mentioned in another post, I know nothing about the guy except what he tried to do on 1/6/21..

(94,672 posts)...but his recent political activity, looking beyond the governorship to a presidential run, shows his true colors.
He's one of a handful of governors who tried to cut off our unemployment benefits early.
One of a handful of governors who stopped enforcement of a state gun law that sets restrictions around concealed-carry handgun permits after the Supreme Court ruling last month.
One of a handful of governors railing (vainly) against our sanctuary cities.
We don't need republicans like Hogan who had hemmed and hawed over policies Marylanders support. We don't need any politicians who bend to discredited republicans. Hogan's no ally for anything Democratic, he's an obstacle.

(10,235 posts)Thanks for letting me know some of the things he's done.
That's horrible he cut off the unemployment benefits early, doesn't agree with common sense gun laws, and opposes sanctuary cities.
My post wasn't mean to imply that this guy's an ally for Dems. I was just pleased to see that he was on the shows yesterday discussing what happened regarding his efforts on 1/6/22.
I TRUST NO REPUBLICANS!

(10,235 posts)I just heard the term "beat down" a couple of weeks ago when a friend was talking about something her adult daughter was saying.
I know nothing about Larry Hogan at all. I just know he was ready to send in The National Guard on 1/6/22 and wasn't given the authority to do so.

I was really, really hoping that he would have.

(12,756 posts)Okay, as a Marylander, I didn't vote for him either time. I don't agree with him on several things. He's also tacked to the right in the past few months because he's angling to run for President. He's got a tremendous amount of goodwill in Maryland because of his battle with cancer early in his tenure. Because of that, he's probably the only Republican governor who stepped up during COVID and instituted strict masking. He got a lot of flack for that from the "free-dumb" types. However, Maryland's positivity rates are way below a lot of other places, especially those with Repub governors. His main appeal, though, is that he LOATHES TFG and his movement. He's positioning himself as the moderate Republican in the race. He'll bring in the Never Trumpers, but I don't know how many of them are still Republicans and will vote in the primaries. They're all trying to out-crazy each other. That may work to his advantage, though.
