(1,675 posts)Do you think there is any chance they will give Sippy Cup the weekend off?

(333 posts)with having her on. On that show, they still have 3 liberal hosts to 1 right-wing host, so she's outnumbered. Plus I doubt that many people besides lefties watch MSNBC that much for it to make a difference, anyway. At least it gets rid of the false equivalence that intellectually-lazy people like to spread about MSNBC being the left's equivalent of FOX News.

(1,675 posts)And I am a HUGE fan of Crystal Ball, but there is something about Sippy Cup and actually how the rest dont jump on the crap that comes out of her that just makes the show unwatchable for me. I have really tried because I WANT to like it. There is so much about it to like but she is just SO horrid. If they didnt let her get away with so much then maybe I could but right now, I spend too much time yelling at the tv to watch it.

(68,124 posts)If it is that serious, then he may not want to leave her side and may miss the entire weekend and maybe the election coverage as well if she doesn't make it.
I can't stand the man's politics but I'm sorry about his mother. He lost his dad about a year ago...

(340 posts)When will freaking MSNBC figure out that liberal, progressives who watch them aren't the same ratings demographic that enjoys watching poor people who commit crimes of poverty be exploited on tv? It's sickening and I'm sick of that shit from the "progressive" network. Fox and CNN have weekend NEWS shows. Why is MSNBC being so stupid?

(135,425 posts)MSNBC is the red-headed stepchild of the NBC franchises. They aren't profitable at this point in time, either, they're growing but they aren't there yet.
Putting that crap on at the weekend draws all those rightwing eyes who are tired of watching Faux all week, but who love seeing "justice" done or who simply miss watching OZ on HBO. It gets the weekend MSNBC "eyes on the screen" numbers up, so they can charge more for advertising blocks.
Those shows are cheap as hell to produce. Plus, they can be pulled apart and put back together to highlight different prison issues--all one needs is a new narrative and an editor to patch the thing into a new order.
The narrators are already on staff and salaried. They don't get paid extra to do those loops.
You need lighting people, camera operators, producers, directors, and other tech geeks (the ones who run the video clips, for example) to make a talking head show happen, to say nothing of makeup people and wardrobe if it's a decently-done exercise. To put on one of those "Lockup" shows, you need a guy--one single solitary person-- to push buttons and flip switches; two if you want to give 'em a bathroom break and a lunch hour.
On an average (non-election) weekend, the ad buys would be the same, regardless if it's prison or news.
By not having to pay a huge support team (to say nothing of the lighting bill for the studio and other expenses of wear/tear) to put on a show, they save a fortune. That's all pure profit, the money they make from those repackaged shows, after they take the cost of the switch-flippers and editors off the top.
I don't care for those prison shows, so I will watch CURRENT TV at the weekend or CSPAN on occasion. But I can understand why they're doing it--it funds the rest of the week and pays the salaries of the Rachels, Rev. Als, and Tweetys, there's a market for it; they draw in viewers that they ordinarily don't get. "Prison Porn" pays the bills Monday through Friday, most weeks of the year and in the election off-years. MSNBC doesn't have a Murdoch to throw money at it, on whims, from his other bloated enterprises--in fact, I don't think the GE-NBC heads are terribly in love with MSNBC, but it has developed too much of a following to make it go away without a little blowback, even though it doesn't have the clout of its counterparts--it has become a "useful tool" to them.

(135,425 posts)She put her legs up on the desk at least once over there--a real "professional journalist."
She wears the thick rimmed glasses and affects that librarian persona--it's rather over the top and a bit obnoxious.
I had never heard of her either, so don't feel bad--I don't watch Faux so I'd never encountered her.
That CYCLE show she's on is UNWATCHABLE. Like fingers on a blackboard--just horrible. Stupid comments, simplistic, jingoistic talking points, a lot of stumbling and bumbling. I've tried to watch it three or four times, and it's exasperating--it's time one will never get back, wasted.
