I saw this one coming.
https://truthout.org/articles/federal-agency-staffers-call-for-manchin-to-be-stripped-of-his-chairmanship/
Federal agency staffers and congressional office members have a message for President Joe Biden as his climate agenda languishes in the Senate: Ensure that fossil fuel industry ally Sen. Joe Manchin faces significant consequences for obstructing legislative progress.
In a letter first reported by The Lever on Monday, 165 staffers from federal health and environmental agencies and 80 congressional offices urged Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to strip Senator Manchin of his chairmanship of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, shut down the Mountain Valley Pipeline Project, eliminate the use of mountaintop removal and coal burning, and establish stringent water and air pollution standards.
This is an absolute emergency, and we want to work together, but since action to meet the scale of the crisis has yet to be delivered, we have no choice but to take matters into our own hands through non-violent direct action, reads the letter, which staffers have signed with initials to protect themselves from potential retaliation.
The letter marks the second time in two weeks that staffers on Capitol Hill have voiced anger and frustration over the federal governments inaction in the face of a climate emergency thats only getting worse, as evidenced by out-of-control wildfires and the record-shattering heatwaves scorching much of the Northern Hemisphere.

(2,711 posts)It's a 50-50 Senate right now, but strip him of his Chairmanship and it will be a 49-51 Republican majority guaranteed. He already threatened to do it.

(13,500 posts)The dems need to retain control of the senate to get judges through and to bring bills to the floor, even if it is just to get republicans on record. Unfortunately they are stuck with him until after the election. If they get a bigger majority they can then tell him to fuck off.

(4,128 posts)..on their states $, projects, etc. He also I've read got the recalcitrant Dem an some R's too into the Oval Office, got in their faces and read them the riot act. He held nothing back including a lot of searing and threatening. He did get his way almost always I've read.
Mr.Bill
(24,906 posts)but he was not working with a 50/50 Senate.

(46,208 posts)LBJ had a safe majority. Manchin walks out on us and no more Biden judges get confirmed. VP Harris has had to break more 50-50 ties than any VP since the 1830s and the third most in history (in only two years).
So, once again, no.

(11,213 posts)manchin can go to hell as far as I'm concerned, but the D by his name has purpose. Put two or three more D's in the senate and manchin will be less than a foot note - ready to be primaries out.

(49,001 posts)they will kick him to the curb. The threat alone should keep him in line. I'm of the opinion that the coming election will make Manchin irrelevant.
Jakes Progress
(11,213 posts)will have worked out a deal beforehand.
Indeed, I feel sure that the two have met and signed a pact already. One reason manchin keeps pissing off the Dems, is that he wants them to cut him loose because the deal he has with turtle is better than he has now.
Never underestimate how conniving and greedy these hypocrites are. After all they are ready to destroy the country and the constitution to get more power.

It's like they are all 10 years old mentally and listen to strict daddy and follow without much pushback at all on most things?

(4,298 posts)Classic voting against your own best interest . Just think about what new green industry could have been brought to W.VA. had HRC won in 2016. Lots of waste land to build solar panel plants and even semi-conductors. But I guess that would mean an influx of a fairly skilled worker base and they have been told to dislike educated people in W.VA.

Ive heard of constituents holding sit-ins in legislators offices, but staffers?
Shall we slam them as out of touch, unrealistic, unicorn seeking left wingers, or maybe do they have a point to make?
I hope Schumer follows their requests (maybe after November after we add a couple of non-obstructing senators).

In Manchin's case this means people that voted largely against Biden.

(12,370 posts)They do tons of research for the Congressional folks they work for, they're intelligent young people, they're our future. Just because they actually want a future that includes a climate that sustains lifeforms, they should shut up and sit down? Nope. I'm relieved to see them involved and taking action. We'll be dead, we've left it on their shoulders! They have a right to be angry.

(12,370 posts)The folks they trust will listen. They're desperate. I'm almost 60, most people on DU as, or older than me. We have had years and years to take the measures needed, Carter tried. We must do better. The hopelessness is overwhelming, yet, it's one excuse after another from folks who could make a difference. President Biden is on the right path, his agenda Must be supported! It's a start.

(2,113 posts)It won't happen. At least not before we have a buffer in place that insures we won't go from majority to minority 'just like that'. *snaps fingers*
JohnSJ
(98,883 posts)the midterms to work to gain enough seats in the Senate to make Manchin and Sinema irrelevant, some brillant jackass to get attention, thought this was a good idea.
I wouldn't be surprised if this group of clowns would ask Manchin to become a republican.
