Are You and Your Loved Ones Still Masking Up?

BA.5 is not the "sniffles."

Imagine being fully vaccinated and boosted and not being able to breathe enough to even eat for over a month, despite being young, without health issues and still coughing to where your ribs feel like they're cracking.

Mask up, this isn't over!

And also, most don’t want to wear masks anymore if they did because they think they are not high risk etc. and don’t really care about anyone else.

Everyone else seems to have accepted that it isn't going to ever go away. That's probably why there is such a huge disconnect between masking from what you see here and what you see in the wild. Most people aren't going to mask for the rest of their lives.

I've made it thus far and kept my 86 year old mother with dementia safe, 7wo7rees safe (worked from home since 3/20) and me.

Well now, all bets off. Mr.7wo7rees left 1st week of June, reports coming in of many hours spent at a Poker Club....
My 86 year old mother I had to place in memory care facility a couple of weeks ago.

Me well, I felt pretty ok till this morning. I had to go in person to get my DL renewed. I texted a good friend, if I get Covid now, it is because of this place...... fingers crossed for us all.
(Not so much the guy hanging out in poker club).

Take care everyone! More and more fully vaxxed and boosted are being felled every darn day. I talk to them. They are working from home remotely. Nurses, techs, assistants, doctors. Same with restaurant industry. Short staffed and price increases are crushing them. And with price increases people aren't eating out so much.......

And just don't even get me started on this heat wave and drought that Texas is enduring with no end in sight. No reliable grid to provide energy but costs have been passed on to consumers and record profits are being posted up.

So yeah, be careful everyone. Buckle up. Stay safe.
I fear it is about to get very difficult again.

I watched her last outing, both in crowded outside areas and indoors.

No mask.

I've not seen many masks at most White House functions or even during the latest hearings. There are a few, but very few. What do they know that we don't?

but Biden was not masked, nor was anyone else.

Obviously it's now considered a choice, but when our "leaders" don't mask up, people tend to think there's just no reason to do so.

Planning on wearing one for the rest of whatever time I've got left. The trick is making it comfortable; I just knew shit-for-brains would make this a long-term thing so even before recommendations and mandates came I ordered a batch of these babies and wear a reusable mask over that. Each set gets the old "plastic jar shake weight" wash at day's end. Every button I touch outside on a regular basis is scarred by my keys. I wash my hands like a mofo.

Unfortunately, ninety percent of my coworkers immediately stopped masking the instant the mandates were overruled. And a lot of the guys sail right past the sinks in the restroom after doing their business. I've been avoiding no-masks like the plague, because they are.

I caught COVID-19 in its early days and even the milder original version damn near killed me. Went through the "cracking ribs" thing. Almost drowned in my own snot but in my sleep-deprived delirium I had no clue how close I came to dying until after I'd recovered. Don't want to deal with that ever again.

...I've never stopped masking in public...to be honest, I like not catching the average cold or flu too...who wants to go a week or two feeling miserable for any reason?

...I don't want the COVies either...but I understand how it could be very uncomfortable for someone to work in a mask for 8 hours+ everyday...

...for me, the walk through the parking lot, half hour in the store, is no big deal...but this is America, land of the free and the home of the brave...

Yes we do; and a mask won’t help. It’s transmitted by skin to skin contact.

My SIL was recently in the hospital for a non Covid matter. She masked, the doctors had multi layers of masks on (she felt insufficient seeing their game) and she caught Covid. She n95'd but caught Covid anyway. She's vaccinated but not boosted (foolish move) now she's autoimmune deficient (new) with Covid for over 3 weeks and they can't even treat her Covid issues due to her other health issues she's currently dealing with. Shes been in the hospital twice in the past month. Due to all of this mess.

Just a cautionary tale, if you have to go into an ER right now, layer the heck out of your masks if you're a vulnerable demographic.

To ER and they kept us waiting for 4 hours to find out he had covid. I didn't want to be there or go but felt like I had to. In ER I sat away from everyone double masked and went outside a lot but it was 105 that day, ugh!

Then they basically told me you will get it.

A big area of arguing. I got tired of begging and realized if I ever catch covid it will be from him.

Fast forward to now. He is isolated in his room and bathroom only, so sick had to go to ER once, they gave him fluids and drugs and sent home. He felt like he was dying painful cough. He is better now but not over it.

I have been going nuts trying to sanitize and not catch it but yesterday I had headache and slight fever. No cough, I think I might be having mild case because I do wear a mask. Have been double masking around house while he has covid. I tested negative yesterday at home test, getting better test at appt tomorrow.

We are both vaccinated and boosted twice. My daughter who is manager of large dealership with 300 employees says a bunch are out with covid and they require all employees to mask up at work.

It's not a binary question, Mask/No Mask.

You wear one when it's appropriate: enclosed spaces with employees are exposed to hundreds of strangers every day: the grocery, public transportation, picking up carry out food.

You DON'T need to wear one walking your dog around the block. It's OUTSIDE. Sure, you can, because you're immune-compromised and there is a non-zero chance (.00000001% is not zero) of outdoor transmission, but you're the exception. Most people are not immune-compromised.

It's probably about the same likelihood as it coming down the chimney and catching it in your living room.
