Does anyone know how to get an EMERGENCY appointment to renew a passport?

My adult daughter is a US citizen but she lives in Germany. She has been visiting me in Louisiana for the last few weeks and she was supposed to fly back to Berlin tonight.

She tried to renew her US passport in Germany a month ago but they told her to wait and renew in the US.

She tried to renew her passport in New Orleans as soon as she arrived here but she couldn't get an appointment. They told her to wait and renew in Germany. No one told her she couldn't fly to Germany since her passport will expire within the next 3 months.

She tried to fly to Berlin last night but they wouldn't let her board because her passport will expire soon.

So she keeps getting the run-around and she needs to be back in Berlin for work. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get an emergency appointment to renew a passport?

Thanks for your help DU!

This happened 50+ years ago. My friend's mom was a naturalized citizen and she got a call from her sister that their dad was going down hill fast & she needed to get back to the U.K. as soon as possible if she wanted to see him.

Her U.S. passport had expired and she was told at least 6 weeks for a new one. She was telling a neighbor her problems and the neighbor said "Call (Hubert) Humphrey's office." Friend's mom didn't think she could call a U.S. senator about something like this, so the neighbor called. (I can't remember for sure, but the neighbor may have been quite active in the DFL - but not that big of a wheel.)

That afternoon someone from Humphrey's Minneapolis office drove out to the house to get the expired passport. He was back the next day with the new one.

My friend got one in Atlanta. It’s expensive and you have to specifically ask for an emergency appointment and have a reason for needing one. I’m sure your daughter would qualify.

He has much experience in US/Germany travel. Maybe it's something he's come across before. I hope everything turns out okay, and it's just a glitch in the system. Best to you and yours. ❤
