(4,405 posts)I don't trust Manchin as far as I can throw him. It's a good day when he comes through for Dems, but rest assured it only happens when it suits him to do so.
Sadly, I live in West Virginia, so I know first-hand how corrupt he is.

he decided he didn't want to be a republican anymore. west Va is a talk radio state and he's enabled by that rotten limbaugh buzz

he needs to lose to a challenger and as the senate looks more and more dem he realizes he could become irrelevant.

We're talking West Virginia, which is a deep red state. The only reason Manchin wins at all is that "Democrat" in this state means "Moderate Republican". A true Democrat who wasn't in the pocket of oil/gas/coal isn't going to win here.

Manchin is a Democrat. The legislation comes from Democrats. I'd like to know more about this partisan double cross and what Manchin promised McConnell. Turtleman has a sad on.
And, Cotton specifically mentions Senema as a hopeful block. Shows they know who supports their party. So, they feel double crossed when a Dem supports his own party. Just can't trust anybody.

(15,396 posts)If he says he'll agree with a bill, all bets are off. But if he puts his name on a bill he negotiated the terms to, that's different.
He put his name on the bill with Schumer. So I think it's an 80% chance he will vote on it.

Whenever deals are talked about by other people, he puts the brakes on. This one he's talking about. It's a big difference. My concerns are Leahy not being back in the Senate to vote, and Sinema throwing up the brakes.
Actually, I'm a little less concerned about Sinema, because with all the backslapping and high-fiving the Dems are doing, I think she'd be tamping down excitement by now.

(24,957 posts)He's still a Democrat, so his shock that Manchin would work with Democrats to pass some things is almost laughable. Of course, I can't entirely blame Cotton (and probably McConnell) for feeling double-crossed by Manchin given how helpful he has been for them against the other Senate Democrats.
