Not to mention, in a party of mostly mainstream Republicans, how would he fare? He would be this decades Ron Paul.

Here is Andrew Yang announcing his Whig II: Electric Boogaloo party in Reuters, July 27, 2022 (emphasis added)
The new party, called Forward and whose creation was first reported by Reuters, will initially be co-chaired by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey. They hope the party will become a viable alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties that dominate U.S. politics, founding members told Reuters.
In an interview, Yang said the [Forward Party] will start with a budget of about $5 million. It has donors lined up and a grassroots membership between the three merged groups numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
"We are starting in a very strong financial position. Financial support will not be a problem," Yang said.
And yet less than 48 hours later, having taken no position on any issue and having accomplished absolutely nothing except a massive friendly-media and social media hard sell of their political vaporware, they already have their hands out asking credulous rubes for their hard earned coin.

Because no matter how smooth the con man is and no matter how mesmerizing the patter, sooner or later (in this case, much sooner), they get to the point.

It's so obvious.
And he'll be shunted to the side as the party will be dominated by never trumpers mostly.

Otherwise, yes, they are trying to siphon votes away from Democrats.

(38,213 posts)The last time this sort of idea was floated, they were looking to have Bloomberg headline it. Even earlier, David Brooks fantasized about a "McCain-Lieberman Party". The only reason this one exists is because Yang funded it, and it barely exists as anything more than a name, Twitter account, and press release.
They don't even have a program, except "Something like having Tip & Ronnie at the head of America circa 2005? Wouldn't that be great?!"
Its constituency appears to be newspaper columnists, beltway media, and a few non-MAGA "ex" Republicans. It gets its name from the inane "not left or right, but forward" stand-in for reasoning that is the epitome of "Both Siders". It's always the "extremes of the Left AND the Right", as if they were equivalent, and not one being a somewhat restive faction of the electorate and the other being the Raving Monster Loony Party out to overthrow the Republic.
It's much too far right to get much draw from the Greenies and Steinbots. I'm not sure where the Democrats would lose people. except maybe Yang's fan club. But a separate party is different from supporting a guy's primary run, so that's not clear either.

They want to attract Hispanics
They want to attract blue dog Dems.
BTW: We had a Dem Hispanic state rep switch parties to GOP.

Look at the groups you named.

Silly me. Yang learned the biggest lesson of campaigning - its not whether you win or lose, its how much free money you can drum up.

(8,103 posts)I suppose because they are in different businesses, it doesn't matter, but there is a new physician group advertising themselves as "Forward." They predate this party announcement by weeks or months. I imagine they are probably not too happy to to see their name taken over.
It happens. I hope they are not associated. They are a preventive medicine group with interesting marketing.

(3,234 posts)It's a threat to Libertarians, Republicans, and other conservative parties.
His base is NOT made up of Democrats but rather "crypto bro" Libertarians and Conservative Capitalists.
His base is young and was built on sites like 4Chan.
No Democrat anything watches people like Dave Rubin.
If I was Republicans I would be very worried because he's going to take a lot of the votes away from the alt-right Kek crowd.
I can't stand Yang. Just ugh! No.
