Everybody knows they've been planning a take-over for decades; every piece of plywood and OSB in my house has that maple leaf stamped on it.

The military isn't subject to the same environmental laws as private corporations and as a result, their lands are contaminated as hell. It's also why, if bases are closed and turned over to municipalities, massive cleanup operations must be undertaken before anything can be done with them.
