platform youre using. Like you, I can see and play the video on DU - I dont have to open the link. And I do not have a Twitter account. But I think some users cant see it and only see the link.
Not sure why it calls for snark, though.

(8,178 posts)in fact I don't like to bitch at all. I also don't like being disrespected in the Subject line, when there is no indication the post is a Twitter thing to click on in order to read or listen. Twitter is an evil format, who made Peter Theil even more wealthy than he already was, and he is an evil fuck. Was an Evil Fuck, and Still IS an EVIL Fuck.
And we make him and his Trump Humping THUGS even MORE wealthier with every reference leading to a click.
Now some folks may disagree because we have a lot of our peeps on Twitter. And we want to spread the good word from our peeps.
I can appreciate that intention, HOWEVER, it would be a matter of decency and respect, imo to our peeps, if we had advance warning indicating the post is a Twitter thing. We then have an option to pass over that post and move on to the next one.
I don't understand why that would be objectionable.

(151,280 posts)rather than just a Twitter link. Others don't, probably because they think everyone can see the actual tweet on DU, which automatically displays the Twitter post from the link. So, those who can't see the actual tweet feel left out.
That's not intentional on the part of the poster, though. So, snarky posts about it are out of place, it seems to me. While I have a Twitter account, I rarely go there. But Twitter is an important source of information for many people, so you can expect people to continue linking to Twitter posts here, because DU automatically displays the post from that link.
There's no reason, though, to attack the poster for not posting in a way that suits you.
As for your objection to Twitter, I never see any right wing stuff there. But, I don't use it as my news source, so I see the stuff in my feed that I want to see in it when I go there. The same is true with Facebook. I control what is in my feed there, as well, using the tools Facebook provides that let me do that.
However, if you see a Twitter link in a DU post, rather than the tweet itself, you can just move on to a different thread, it seems to me. I do that all the time with OPs on DU. I just use the back arrow in my browser and return to where I was when I clicked on the thread. That's pretty easy, I think.

(8,178 posts)Asking for that courtesy wasn't intended to be a snarky ask.
I feel like it's a reasonable request, given that there are a number of twitter links posted here which feature right wing nut jobs etc and see $$$$ going into accounts of our collective enemies. With every click.
I understand this seems to be popular here. I feel that's unfortunate.
No worries, it's what it is.

(151,280 posts)some cannot see the content when they post a link. They see it, so they assume everyone does.
I almost never post Twitter links. On the rare occasion when I do, I also copy and paste the text content in the post. That's difficult to do for most cell phone users, though.

(8,178 posts)sometime soon, there will be something else that might overtake twitter. I also tend to forget some people are posting from their phones instead of their laptop or notebook device.
I do have a galaxy phone went to market last year. I could "sign in" from my phone but I never do. I'll read DU on it occasionally when I'm away from home and I'm urgently awaiting info but I don't sign in there. too hard to edit!

(151,280 posts)In the evening, I log into DU on it. I use the full-screen desktop mode with the phone turned sideways and a good pair of reading glasses. I do post from the phone, but it is a slow, tedious process for someone who types almost 100 wpm on a regular keyboard. I also have a bluetooth folding keyboard, just in case I need to type something long, but my PC is just steps away, so I almost never use that.
While it's tricky, I can copy and paste any text from that phone that I see elsewhere. There are a few tricks that help you select text more easily and then store it in the phone's memory for pasting in somewhere else. Most people haven't learned how to do that, but there are YouTube videos that show you how, if you take the time to look at them.
Twitter links show up as the actual Twitter post, using Chrome as my browser on the Samsung, too.

(8,178 posts)My low vision issues are progressing along, and worse than ever. I have to actually zoom the page really large to read text, even with my readers on. I have to use my computer.
I remember the days when I worked as Library assistant in my late twenties.. shelving large print books wasn't a thing I could relate to back then. Getting old ain't for sissy's..

(20,603 posts)We have a whole cadre who think thats about the worst bad word in the world and become very upset if its used in any context. I guess the reason they havent attacked you for using the B word is because youre not using it to describe a Republican. Thats out of bounds, apparently.

(8,178 posts)then ever. Do they care? Twitter is a TrumpHumping support machine, just as the Media is to the extent of $$$$$$
Why we ignore that fact is weird to me.
CatWoman
(80,290 posts)bottom line is, you're not obligated to click on this or any link you find objectionable.
there's also a "hide thread" function if it bothers you so much.
I don't think you or anyone else has the right or authority to dictate what people post. As a matter of fact, when this conversation first started, I wasn't even talking to you. Am I supposed to canvass posters and get permission before posting a thread?
Twitter is a ready, convenient and current source of information; I checked youtube and the most recent video on this subject was posted about 7 hours ago.

(2,020 posts)he got. He had a gun at the Capitol and he was trying to kill Pelosi. She and her daughter are not thinking clearly if they think that doesn't merit serious punishment. It doesn't matter if someone else told them to do it. You learn (or don't learn) not to follow blindly what people tell you to do as a child, or you pay the consequences.
That said, I share in their anger at seeing 45 still walking around free despite his role in inciting the insurrection that day. He has never been held accountable for anything. I am losing faith he will be truly, TRULY held accountable for this. As in jail time. True consequences. And so while I think they are completely off the mark for thinking their husband/father doesn't deserve to be punished (he does--and the sentence is right in my opinion), I can understand where some of the frustration is coming from too.

(79,058 posts)I did not have to access "twitter" -- something I never do -- to watch this film clip. I thank you for posting it. I hadn't seen the wife before. I did like that the daughter who just graduated from high school said that if her father is incarcerated, Trump should get a life sentence.
Being old and of limited skills on devices of modern technology, I do not understand the objection of my friend at the top of the discussion. I always enjoy that person's contributions on this forum, and assume they are on a device that doesn't play the OP's clip without going to "twitter." I'm always on my desk top computer, which allows me to see and enjoy an OP by one of the DU community that I have the greatest of respect for.
