Republican Sen. Rand Paul and Charles Booker, his Democratic opponent this fall in Kentucky, traded shots at each other Monday involving each other's response to the deadly flooding that devastated several Appalachian counties last week.
Booker personally delivered a truck full of water and supplies to an emergency shelter at Letcher County Central High School in flood-ravaged Whitesburg on Saturday, with his campaign office in Louisville now full of more supplies that will be delivered soon after his call for supporters to provide donations.
But when asked by a reporter at his Monday press conference in Louisville if he felt like he was doing enough for the flood victims and the optics of his opponent being there on the ground with his volunteer effort Paul countered that politicians should stay out of the way.

Booker shot back at Paul's comments later Monday, issuing a statement that the senator's "pitiful response is yet more evidence that he does not care about the people of Kentucky."

Rand Paul is a POS. What has he actually done for the people of Kentucky?

(97,623 posts)That has been Paul's way as Senator from Kentucky all along, he has never cared about his constituents. His motto: "stay out of the way".
I hope Booker takes him in a blue wave.

(171,710 posts)politicians absolutely SHOULD be seen as caring, actively helping, it is a boost to the community - Booker and Beto know this, people like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz absolutely do NOT because THEY DON'T REALLY CARE

Right now, Ill take that. I give him some cash monthly. He will talk to anyone about any issue, and thats the way we should be.

(12,522 posts)I give him a small amount - I think - there are so many I need to make sure he's on the list. And, just like some of the others, I'm not in his state.

(13,480 posts)I will send him a donation, but he will need a lot more to compete with Paul and his Republican machine. I dont know whether the abortion issue will have an effect, but Booker upsetting Paul would just be a glorious day!

Thank you Ukraine for telling us about Rand Paul. I mean we knew, but now we know.

(13,003 posts)about what all the Democrat Zillionaires are doing for us. The Republican Zillionaires are dumping more and more money into Republican Candidate's election funds every day. Nationally and locally........
Think about this.....The Trump/REpublican candidates saved the Dem Zillionaires many billions in additional tax cuts every year. Why wouldn't they AT LEAST give that money to the Dem Candidates? Maybe that question self answers itself........NOT LOL.......

(13,480 posts)I can appreciate the sentiment, but you need serious name recognition in other states with individual donors who can help. Jaime Harrison got huge amounts of money from outside his state, as did Rev. Warnock.
Im now wondering why the Democratic Senatorial Committee has done nothing for Bookeror at least I assume they havent because my email seems to have been given to every Democratic candidate in every state, except that I have never received one from Booker or anyone fund raising for him. Makes me wonder why. With some national support, Booker might be able to win because Rand Paul is not exactly a beloved public figure.

(9,067 posts)You roll up your sleeves and get to work. Staying out of the way isn't and option for those who serve their constituents.
But then, Republicans aren't known for serving others...only themselves.

(3,040 posts)How dare Booker act like a Senator should act? Doesnt he know his opponent has a right to not do his job and show no concern for his constituents?
Id say Charles Booker for Senate, Rand Paul for Eye Doctor, but who in the world would want to be in the same room in the latter, let alone have their eyes checked by them?
