Against the consensus of the medical community and the American Association of Pediatrics, Florida's Board of Medicine has voted to accept the state's petition to ban gender affirming care as it exists and essentially force de-transition.

It's a sad dark day in Florida.

Just to clarify, this is not a ban. This is just the start of the rulemaking process. We have to continue the fight going forward.

I have visited at least 30 states and I have managed to find good and bad people in every one of them.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida’s medical board on Friday voted to begin the process of banning gender-affirming medical treatment for youths, a move that comes as Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has become increasingly vocal in his opposition to such therapies.

After a public hearing that lasted more than three and a half hours in Fort Lauderdale, the 15-member Board of Medicine voted to prohibit minors from receiving hormone therapy and undergoing surgical procedures as a treatment for gender dysphoria, which refers to the feelings of discomfort or distress some transgender people experience when their bodies don’t align with their gender.

The board also voted to require adults seeking such care to wait 24 hours before going forward with any medical procedures.

University of Florida Professor and Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology Michael J. Haller, who testified during the hearing as an expert, called the proposal a political stunt.

We have a wack for surgeon general and a dictator Governor. My hope is LGTBQ voters come out in force along with the women of Florida.

The medications seem reversible (to me) - assuming we're talking about the ones that delay the onset of puberty.

I only knew one Trans kid growing up, and they were set on that path when I met them in 5th grade.

They're asking to ban surgeries, but it's not specific. It's makes it sound like doctors are performing gender-reassignments on underage kids.

In which they have jurisdiction.
Allowing a fascist governor to file a petition against a body of medical therapies, recognized by multiple medical Associations/Societies including the American Association of Pediatrics is a massive failure.
The Florida Board of Medicine just failed to protect Florida.
