This needs to be a huge part of the messaging with examples and citations.

(6,773 posts)Take a look back through history, or a look around the world in modern times, to see how far religious extremists will go in their cruel quest for control over women.
Revocation of the rights to drive, to own property, to appear in public without a male chaperone? Sure. Mandatory wearing of the burqa? We got it. The indescribable horror of female genital mutilation? All too real for women in some places today.
These extremes can't be mentioned as a part of party messaging, because to Americans today they seem so unlikely as to be absurd. But they should be born in the back of the mind. We must never allow even a single step down the road that leads in that direction. Not a single step.

Staying home to take care of kids.
Means no education, no well paying jobs.
They have to live on the good will of males, father or husband.
Who then control the finances.
Women won't have the income to own anything again.
This is like what it was like for women not that long ago.

(12,384 posts)But GOPers be crazy.
When I asked a bunch of older GOPers why they would vote for a Republican who wants to take away their SocSec, they said, "No they won't do that, that's just what they say to get elected."
So, the GOPers out having sex and protecting themselves from STD or possible pregnancy, really think the GOPers are just "saying" they are going to take away your birth control (like Thomas). They won't really take away your birth control or SocSec.
Believe them when Republicans say they are going to take away your rights or your money. That's exactly what they will do.

If they see an opportunity, they'll do it, like they did with Roe, like they're after with contraception.

(22,573 posts)We have a morning after pill. I imagined a night before pill, like a big no button. Then, I felt this flash of anger that some idiots I don't even know are trying to interfere with so much that is none of their business. I'm not in a relationship, and too old to have kids, so I'm on the sidelines. But I'll tell you what. This over reach must stop.
When an adult couple has to stop and think about if they're going to get caught-either because of illicit sex, or because they can't get birth control, or an abortion, the people behind the restrictions of our lives are meddling in things that are absolutely none of their business. We are not their kids, their families or their friends. They need to butt out.

Every vote for a Republican is a vote for Congress to ban abortion and birth control in every single state. McConnell has already said he would consider such a bill. The words of Thomas and McConnell are important, as theyre promises of future plans.
They might also consider an old quote from members of the Southern Baptist Convention just before and after Roe became law. For example, Carl F. H. Henry who became the editor of Christianity Today would affirm that a womans body is not the domain and property of others.

Abortion was turned into a political football by Republicans as an election strategyone that has kept them in office when they have few other policies.
