Politico: Dems lose a chunk of their drug bill...

Senate Parliamentarian ruled that 60 votes would be needed to pass the provision that provided penalties to drugmakers who raised prescription prices higher than inflation. Affects 'scrips from private insurors and Medicare.

them from passing legislation? I’m not saying fire her which is what the repubs did. “In 2001, Trent Lott fired Robert Dove, the Senate parliamentarian, after Dove refused to allow Republican spending measures under the Byrd Rule.” https://www.governing.com/context/the-history-of-congressional-parliamentarians-and-why-they-matter

And I think it’s hypocrisy to criticize Republicans for doing it if we do it when convenient.

any interest in governing. The are obstructionists. They don’t want to participate in the process fine. We’ll do it without them. The parliamentarian is an advisory position. I think a polite, thank you for you opinion, then pass what we want. What we have been doing is rewarding them for bad behavior. It’s like giving a two year old a cookie every time they tantrum then whining that they are always throwing tantrums.

Was Lott right to fire the Parliamentarian to force his bill through? If not, why should Dems do it.

Well said, especially the point about the parlimentarian being an advisory position. The only drawback might be if one of more Dem senators felt ignoring the parlimentarian would be against the "traditions" of the Senate.

I mean, if you insist, but this isn't a two wrongs don't make a right situation. This is a fight or roll over and die situation. If that's okay with you, you can speak for yourself and be comforted in the fact that at least you stuck to your principles while the world burns. But know that eventually you will be moved out of the way.
