Anyone else having Paxlovid rebound?

I got Covid at the end of July and took Paxlovid. I was negative on August 4, then back to positive on August 6. My symptoms from the rebound are a lot worse than the original Covid. Fever that’s hard to keep down, sneezing, sneezing, sneezing, coughing and so much sinus pain.

Has anyone else experienced the rebound? How many days did it last? This is day 3 for me.

Initial positive on 7/5. Started Pax on 7/6. Tested negative on 7/12, day after finishing Pax. Started feeling crummy again on 7/15, and positive again on 7/16. Felt better again on 7/19, but didn't test negative until 7/26.
I never really felt that sick and never broke a fever - more annoying than anything else. The Pax did seem to help while I was on it, apart from the horrible taste from it. I did feel worse on the rebound.
I also lost my sense of smell on the rebound, that was my first clue - I only lost it for a day during the initial round, but it was my first rebound symptom and it took a week to come back.

Also, my wife was not prescribed Pax, and she had recovered about the same time my rebound started. However, she still has a persistent cough, which she's concerned may be an initial sign of long COVID.

I hope I can just get past the sinus pain and the fever soon. The CDC has said it can last 5 days — wish I had a better idea what to expect.

That might have helped get all the virus out. This back in June, so it was definitely Omicron.
Considering I tested positive four days after Laz, who wasn't given Paxlivid, the virus was pretty much out of the household by the time I started taking the meds.

I wonder if they’ll end up giving people Paxlovid for more than 5 days. My doctor’s nurse said that “if this doesn’t work, go to the emergency room.” Where I can spread this to more people? I’m hoping I’ll be over it by the end of 5 days of rebound and won’t have to seek additional treatment.

I read that if you have a lower viral load when you start it, it just suppresses it and your body doesn’t really fight it. That’s why it rebounds. I was double boosted and started it almost immediately upon my positive, when I was barely symptomatic. So it may not have given my body enough chance to start fighting it.
I did a lot of reading about rebound last month!

I agree that the push to get people back out after 5 days is not helpful to anyone. I’m not going to do anything until I’ve had a couple of negative tests.

PCR tests give false positives once you have recovered, up to 90 days. Rapid tests are more accurate at that point. So basically trust PCR tests at the beginning, and Rapid tests at the end.

We’ve been buying extras. My husband had Covid first, but they didn’t give him Paxlovid. He’s doing better now than I am.

But I have yet to hear anyone say they did. There sure are a lot of us who took the meds that get the rebound.

It seems higher. But also my two friends who took it at the same time as me didn’t rebound.

Seems like a lot of people are having rebounds.
Not sure why that wasn't as widespread during clinical trials as it appears to be now.

the rebound is a lot worse. I thought I’d skated through Covid and was starting to feel a little too smug, I guess.
