(169,756 posts)the story has been spreading on RW media and I'm aiming for a regular MSM source to do it - even if "breaking". CNN needs to put something out there.

(169,756 posts)Now that other sources are reporting, I saw a NBC News one that mentioned that Perry's issue may be associated with DOJ's OIG investigation where an attempt was made to make a DOJ environmental Asst. AG Jeff Clark (who had no criminal prosecutioni experience), the Acting AG in order to bolster the case of a fraudulent election (since obviously Barr wasn't going to do it and Barr left).
Perry, a Pennsylvania lawmaker who's chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, was subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 committee earlier this year.

(snip)
Perry is not the only Trump ally to have his phone seized by federal agents. Lawyer John Eastman had his phone seized in June on the same day authorities executed a search warrant at Clark's Virginia home.
Both of those warrants appeared to stem from an investigation DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced in January 2021, three days after The New York Times first reported the extent to which Clark sought to help Trump use the Justice Department to push his bogus claims of election fraud. The inspector generals website says the office is examining the role and activity of DOJ and its components in preparing for and responding to the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

(39,720 posts)Rep. Scott Perry has refused to testify here, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), vice chair of the select committee, said as she opened its case to the American public. As you will see, Representative Perry contacted the White House in the weeks after Jan. 6 to seek a presidential pardon. Multiple other Republican congressmen also sought presidential pardons for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election
The new details surfaced during the panels first public hearing, as the bipartisan committee launched the unveiling of its findings of a yearlong investigation into the insurrection. Its the first of a string of hearings scheduled in the coming weeks that are set to paint a picture of a carefully planned and orchestrated attack on American democracy.
Perry was a major actor in then-President Donald Trumps attempt to overturn the election, connecting Trump with Jeffrey Clark, an official in the Department of Justice who supported Trumps efforts, according to testimony and documents obtained by the committee.

(42,660 posts)...are still candidates for office come November. And not just from a moral or ethical standpoint, either. We're talking about giving real power to real traitors. I don't want to hear about how these things take time! A year and a half has already gone by while GOP criminals keep laying their treasonous plans. They're not waiting.

(23,497 posts)This is from CNN -
"On five occasions, according to text messages reviewed by CNN, Perry texted Meadows to request the conversation move to the encrypted app or to alert Meadows to a message he sent there.
Signal does not collect or save user data, making it more difficult to provide that information to outside entities, including law enforcement and congressional investigators, even under subpoena."
I would love it if there was a way to get the actual texts from these encryptions. He used Signal.
Edit: From Google - A recently discovered FBI training document shows that US law enforcement can gain limited access to the content of encrypted messages from secure messaging services like iMessage, Line, and WhatsApp, but not to messages sent via Signal, Telegram, Threema, Viber, WeChat, or Wickr.
