(2,113 posts)He's one of the specific guys mentioned by the Jan 6th Committee that requested a pardon. Whenever there's a list that includes Gaetz, Boebert, MTG, et al - be it for voting against a certain bill, spewing conspiracy theories, whatever - he's usually there too.

(141,926 posts)is an American politician. He is the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district. It was numbered the 4th district from 2013 to 2019. It includes Harrisburg, York, and most of the inner suburbs. Wikipedia
n November 2021, Perry was elected chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, the most conservative group among U.S. House Republicans.[2]
On December 20, 2021, the House committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack called for an interview with Perry, the first time it publicly sought to question a sitting member of Congress. Perry declined the request the next day. The panel's chairperson said it had evidence from several witnesses that Perry had "an important role" in efforts to install Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark as acting attorney general as part of attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election. The committee subpoenaed Perry on May 12, 2022.[3]n November 2021, Perry was elected chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, the most conservative group among U.S. House Republicans.[2]

(81,859 posts)But Perry could be involved in espionage too.
We know Putin installed more than one MOC.
Or could not be connected at all.
But I agree the sale of classified intel has to be on the list.

(6,115 posts)Except ...
Maybe the DOJ got tired of sitting around on all of these many, many investigations and an order came down to go after everybody. Now. Let's get this show on the road.
Maybe the DOJ was waiting until the 137 new lawyers (or however many they hired) got acclimated to the department and they are now up to speed and ready to prosecute.
Maybe the DOJ is deciding to fill the space until the next J6 committee hearings in September.
Maybe they hope to stun the entire criminal cabal and go after all the big players at once so that no one feels insulated from the carnage.
Could be coincidence.
Most detectives don't believe in coincidences.
All of your points are good ones.
Yes sending some message to all the GOP criminals, getting the show on the road, having a full staff now, etc.

(15,445 posts)about Warren Jeffs.
They never were able (or chose) to do anything about him until they finally "raided" his elaborate temple, where he had all kinds of information, including actual videos, of his child sexual abuse - he had a big vault where he kept it all.
Now, 45 is a Benny Hill level buffoon, so he probably isn't as organized as Jeffs was, but same basic concept as a completely self absorbed, lunatic cult leader.
They are get so deluded about how powerful they are, which is part of being able to suck weak minded people into it in the first place, the feel they are above the law.

If some of these documents got into the hands of others, there might be digital evidence to tie it back to Trump.
12 boxes or more of evidence reportedly seized at Mar-a-lago yesterday will generate more leads and could provide evidence to nail more crooks.

(10,920 posts)The good news is they appear to have got a fair amount.
What they got may well lead to other desires to get more. Trump's people are probably burning that stuff now if they haven't already. Some other efforts may already be in motion like Perry's cell phone.

However the built-in "Chumpy-ness" of the FBI and DoJ explains everything.

Novara
(6,115 posts)... that made them seize Perry's phone. Even if they have a warrant for one thing, if they find evidence of another crime, they can legally act on it.
kentuck
(115,461 posts)How could his phone records be related to the stolen documents in Trump's basement?
Could this be the "planted" evidence Trump and his lawyers are so concerned about?
Novara
(6,115 posts)... prosecutors are absolutely authorized to act on it.
Keep in mind, nobody has read the warrant and nobody knows what it entails. It likely involves far more than boxes of classified documents, which they knew about for months. This search warrant was issued for new information.
