Omar ekes out House primary win over centrist in Minnesota

WASHINGTON (AP) — Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, a member of the progressive Squad, eked out a closer-than-expected Democratic primary victory Tuesday against a centrist challenger who questioned the incumbent’s support for the “defund the police” movement.

The evening went far smoother for another progressive, Becca Balint, who won the Democratic House primary in Vermont — positioning her to become the first woman representing the state in Congress.

3. "Centrist" challenger? I thought this was a deep blue district. Why would a "centrist" do so well?

Are voters suddenly not progressive in Omar's district anymore?

"Centrist" and corporate/corrupt/same as Republicans are usual smears of perfectly progressive Democrats who just aren't populists or associated with superPACs like Justice Democrats.

I see it from media all the time. Sinema is commonly called a centrist by the media but I disagree and think she is a conservative Democrat.

Might be fun to learn a little about centrist Don Samuels

Maybe this close run will help the Congresswoman act as more of a work horse than a show horse for her constituents.

One cannot be rewarded with the progressive label without repeating the slogans. Into the centrist/corrupt/corporate/both sides/establishment bin he goes!

In his council district that has a high crime rate. He somehow thinks that more cops in a high crime area may help to reduce crime. Silly centrist we all know that less cops in a high crime area is the key to safety.
