Sen. Lindsey Graham a no-show at scheduled Fulton County court appearance

CBS

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46/AP) - U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham did not show up to his scheduled appearance on Wednesday at the Fulton County courthouse.

Graham was subpoenaed to testify to a special grand jury thatís investigating whether Trump and others broke any laws when they tried to overturn Joe Bidenís win in Georgia in 2020.

The senator is one of the Trump allies who Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis wants to question as part of her investigation into what she alleges was ďa multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere.Ē

Graham said previously that he would fight a subpoena and he still has the ability to do so if he so chooses.

Grahamís attorneys say that the probe by the Democratic district attorney, Fani Willis, is politically motivated.

Graham was ordered to testify before the Special Purpose Grand Jury on Aug. 2. The petition also states that the State of Georgia will pay all reasonable and necessary travel expenses and witness fees requited to secure his attendance and testimony.

Using the word "lady" in what is clearly meant to be a slur IS sexist and offensive. This discussion has been had any number of times here. It grows wearisome.

That's what would happen if any of us didn't show up.

10. How can he still fight the subpoena now that he has defaulted by not showing up?

"Graham said previously that he would fight a subpoena and he still has the ability to do so if he so chooses"

He should be in jail right now. What the Hell kind of a country do we live in where a certain group can just flaunt the law and get away with it?

11. He hasn't defaulted

The OP contains some bad reporting.

Heís currently in federal court trying to quash the subpoena. He doesnít have to show up while thatís pending.

The judge has reportedly indicated that she will either quash/partially quash it or send it back to the state court for limitations on what questions can be asked

38. Thank you for posting accurate information.

For this particular hearing he was not required to appear personally, & his attorney, his legal representative, appeared on his behalf.

That is his legal right, just as it is yours & mine.

It's truly frustrating how often media reports are wrong or misleading, as in this case.

14. I guess so and thanks for the new word. But I think I wrote "flaunt" as in "Flaunt it in your face"

flaunt

transitive verb. : to treat with contemptuous disregard : scorn flouting the rules. intransitive verb. : to indulge in scornful behavior Ah, you may flout and turn up your facesó Robert Browning. flout.

-------------------------------------------

I never used the word "flout" before. But it does make more sense here.

flout
/flout/
Learn to pronounce
verb
openly disregard (a rule, law or convention).
"these same companies still flout basic ethical practices"

If the motion hasn't been decided, he still has to show up when summoned, unless that date was postponed until the motion was decided.

Issue a bench warrant and drag him into the police station under arrest. They will book him and make him promise to appear at a new date. That's how this works for ordinary folks.

FBaggins has it correct, the media reporting on this is seriously misleading at best & it doesn't serve us well to base our conclusions on falsehoods. Leave that for the Radical Right Rethuglicans.
