As If We Needed Another Reason To Say: F-CK YOU, ELON MUSK! (Musk Tweet on Tax Collectors)

Elon Musk retweets a meme about the Inflation Reduction Act triggering a second American Revolution. Nice try, monkey-boy, but we're not trying to start a second American Revolution. We're trying to save your ugly neck, by preventing another FRENCH Revolution.

1. I don't know for sure that the Inflation Reduction Act includes a provision for the IRS to hire 87,000 new auditors. I only know that it's currently a Republican/plutocrat talking point that they're repeating AD NAUSEAM. Add Musk to the chorus of robber barrons.

2. When the GOP GUTTED the IRS's funding in the late 1990s, they did it knowing full well that the first people the IRS would lay off would be the highest paid auditors, who specialize in millionaire/billionaire tax returns; thus making it easier for millionaires to avoid taxes, and shifting the tax burden to the middle and working class. Not coincidentally, that's the time the wealth of the top 1% started to balloon, and so did the national debt. Because the wealthy weren't paying their fair share of the tax burden.

If the IRS is going to hire those top-end auditors back....GOOD! You're about to see some REAL deficit reduction. (And no, your threats to move to Dubai to avoid taxes don't scare us. We know damned well that you wouldn't do that.)

3. The GOP keeps saying an increase in auditors is the same as a 'tax increase.' Sure it is! Only to the millionaires who have gotten a FREE RIDE for the last 30 years! And if you've had a free ride for 30 years, that's the point at which it starts feeling more like a RIGHT than a crooked privilege.

Which brings us to Musk's tweet.
Allow me to fix it for you, Elon. The IRS hiring auditors is not the equivalent of starting another American Revolution. It's the equivalent of PREVENTING another goddamn FRENCH REVOLUTION! You'd do well to remember that every time you tell working class Americans to 'eat cake.'

5. One impetus behind the Revolution was that the wealthiest (English) paid few taxes.

The tax burden was increased on the working class, while the English-backed trading companies were exempt.

Does Elon Musk pay his fair share of taxes?

I would wager that he pays less of a percentage of his income in taxes than I do. And I bet he complains about his tax burden more than I complain about mine.

Our economy is getting more and more top-heavy. It is weird that the man on the very top of our economic pyramid is the guy who spends his time online complaining about his taxes.
