When someone mentioned Nixon had a tape, a pile of leading Republicans went to he White House...

and told him to get out.

Trump has done much worse. Much, much worse and leading Republicans are just egging him on. They're letting Liz Cheney show she has more balls than any of them.

She voted against Biden's big bill and might just vote to kill Medicaid, so she's certainly not a good girl, but that is legal and her right to do. She is dead set against Trumpian bullshit, though and is not her right, but her responsibility. The only one who gets it.

Sam Donaldson has said, simply and effectively, that we should go for the evidence and follow it. That is what democracy does. Not always well, but it tries.

The Donald has said evidence is fine, as long as it supports him and his bullshit. And bullshit is what it is, what it has always been. Every failure in his life he has bullshitted to turn it into a success. Letting the Plaza go bankrupt was first a play on how bankruptcy was a good thing, and when that didn't work, blaming the whole mess on Ivana.

But now he has stuck boxes of stuff in a basement in a beach resort. Boxes that include things no one could take away. Things so sensitive that government officials and congresscritters could read, but not take copies. Security clearances are often stamped on documents because underlings think it's better to stamp them then not, but lists of our hidden agents should be confidential. Lists of things that affect our dealings with North Korea should be "your eyes only". But Trump secrets them away because he thought it would be cool to have them.

He is the first serious crook to ever be in the White House and he should not be mollycoddled, kid gloved or anything but shown the door to an unending hell that even Nixon wouldn't see. And his supporters should also be trounced into the dirt they came from, not celebrated and rewarded.

The existence of Nixon’s tapes was disclosed during the Watergate hearings, but it wasn’t until a year later, when the Supreme Court ordered the “smoking gun” tape to be turned over, that Nixon realized he was out of options. I don’t think the current bunch of spineless GOPers will do a damn thing even if a video turns up of Putin handing TFG a sack of cash and the Pee Tape in exchange for a document stamped TOP SECRET Nuclear Weapons and Space Lasers.

We might have disagreed with them, but it was still possible to have principled disagreements and remain friends. I very much doubt there are many inter-party friendships anymore.

of a beach resort it reminds me of Citizen Kane, where at the end they are taking an inventory of all Kane's hoard. There might be a good movie made about Trump one day, a fictitious stand-in for Trump like Kane was a stand-in for Hearst.

Another thing, I didn't know Sam Donaldson was still alive! I used to love seeing him go after Reagan. Hardly.anyone else in the press corps would step up like he did. I hated to see him leave television.

I'm sure he's well set, so he might as well enjoy retirement. I want him on tv because he was smart, funny, and did his fucking job. You hardly ever see any of that nowadays. Most are pretty bland, other than the nutbars on Fox.

and I think this: Because he was president and because of the crap he's done and the laws he's broke - is exactly why he should be indicted, convicted and jailed.

Let this then be a warning and example to future presidents that they are not above the law and that they will be held accountable.

A video of Trump's people moving boxes to hide them just before the DoJ show up in June

They probably have some surveillance evidence too - aside from the informant and the evidence the search warrant collected.

They appear to have recovered about 45 boxes or sets of documents Trump did not want them to see - maybe some of his lawyers helping him to obstruct justice (so they're exempt from attorney-client privilege) ...

This one is not going to end well for Trump ...

You can tell because he's flailing "I would have given it to them - all they had to do was ask .. - they know I don't respond well to subpoenas" "they planted the evidence" "I declassified it" "it's covered by executive privilege" "it's covered by attorney-client privilege" "its political persecution - a witch hunt!", etc, etc.

I doubt GA election case or the NY probes of his fraud and tax evasion are going to end well for him either.
