NBC 12 News took a deep dive over the weekend into the implications of Lakes support for the curriculum, which is founded on Trumps 1776 Commission.
The 1776 Commission was a Trump-led response to try and combat what the right claimed was left-wing indoctrination in schools tied to critical race theory.
Kari looked through the Hillsdale 1776 curriculum and discussed it with educators before selecting it as an alternative to the biased, CRT-based indoctrination permeating current textbooks and lesson plans, a Lake campaign spokesperson told 12News.
The Hillsdale 1776 curriculum is a history and civics curriculum created at Hillsdale College, which the articles authors describe as a private Christian school in Michigan thats influential in right-wing circles.
The article notes that Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn was the chairman of former President Trumps short-lived 1776 Commission, created to support what Trump called patriotic education. The creation of the curriculum was a response to the New York Timess 1619 Project, which critics claim warped American history to demonize the countrys founding and place blame on contemporary groups in society for historic wrongs.
The Hillsdale curriculum blames progressives for the greatest deviations from the original Constitution, notes the article, adding:
Teachers are instructed that young American citizens must understand why and how the government of the country they now live in was changed from what their countrys founders originally intended.

(196,512 posts)Its liberal arts curriculum is based on Western heritage as a product of Greco-Roman culture and Christian tradition.[6]
In 2013, Arnn was criticized for remarks about ethnic minorities he made while testifying before the Michigan legislature against the Common Core curriculum standards. Expressing concern about government interference with educational institutions, he noted having received a letter from the state Department of Education early in his presidency that said his college "violated the standards for diversity." He added, "because we didn't have enough dark ones, I guess, is what they meant." After being criticized for calling minorities "dark ones," Arnn explained that he was referring to "dark faces". He stated: "The State of Michigan sent a group of people down to my campus, with clipboards ... to look at the colors of people's faces and write down what they saw. We don't keep records of that information. What were they looking for besides dark ones?"[39][40] Michigan House Democratic Leader Tim Greimel condemned Arnn's comments, calling them "offensive", "inflammatory and bigoted", and asked for an apology.[41] In response, the college issued a statement apologizing for Arnn's remark, while reiterating his concern about "state-endorsed racism", as Arnn called affirmative action.[42]

Larry P. Arnn
In July 2022, as an education advisor to Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee, Arnn made a number of remarks condemned by people in both parties, including the following:
"The teachers are trained in the dumbest parts of the dumbest college in the country....You will see how education destroys generations of people....It's devastating. It's like the plague. We are going to try to demonstrate that you don't have to be an expert to educate a child because basically anybody can do it."
Governor Lee refused to condemn Arnn's remarks, but did say Arnn was only talking about "leftist" teachers. Donald Trump promised, if elected president in 2024, to name Larry Arnn his Secretary of Education.[13]

(7,629 posts)After over 60 years observing Hillsdale College I say they are a fraud and professional grifters. They have about ruined my home town. College inspired projects have cost millions of dollars in a town that is above 30% poor people. Each of the projects dragged out for years one is finished but way over budget and only after the college cronies were removed from the project. One that is "in progress" has been stalled and no visible effort is being seen.
College minions forced out a good library director. Among other things they didn't want children to learn about the 2020 election. Hillsdale College paid Ginni Thomas to get things done from the inside. I have no idea if she still is a paid employee, but i know she was.
They sport graduates like Erik Prince who most would call a war criminal. Also Betsy DeVoss who if she didn't have money would be deemed an airhead. They now push this school curriculum that is Christian nationalist and teaches only part of our history.
They have orchestrated the debacle in Florida education and advocated teachers don't need any credentials to teach just a Christian bent and a little knowledge about something. They are a spreading cancer, that is well financed with corporate money of which they are awash. This is ventriloquist Larry Arnn speaking Lake is just his dummy.

Wonder Why
(7,031 posts)"The War of Norther Aggression"?
How the KKK was just a peaceful protest movement?
How the Native Americans attacked all the illegal immigrants coming over from Europe who only wanted their 5 acre mini-ranchettes?
How St. Donald became the biggest topic of adoration in some churches and why it was so important because he saved the country?
Why it is so important that our sacred way of life requires that the richest people get all the bonuses even when they fail?
That the Statue of Liberty really says "Bring me your raring-to-go rich, your huddled Maserati owners yearning to breathe the smell of more money, the wretched oligarchs of your teeming luxury yachts..."?
Can't wait to sit in on those classes.

She does have a few negatives:
1. Dumb as a stump.
2. Fascist.
3. Totally ignorant about how the government works.
4. So far up Trump's ass we need a winch to get her out.
5. Absolutely the wrong choice for any public office including dogcatcher.
But aside from that...

(60,190 posts)I.e. economy courses that teach that bankruptcy is good, and defaulting on debts is legitimate.
Social classes that teach that three marriages are a minimum necessary for a stable personal life
English classes that teach that making up words and the names of countries is a good way to get your message across
Math classes that teach that eighty-one is less than seventy-four.........
Maybe that will educate a lot of "private Christians," but it would surely confuse anyone familiar with the real world.
That's the real "Trump inspired" curriculum. And being poorly educated, which TFG likes.

(60,190 posts)Solve this equation in Trumpmath:
$0 minus $40,000,000 minus $60,000,000 = ?
In the real world, the correct answer is that you are negative $100,000,000.
But in Trumpmath, you are +$95,000,000 seeing as how you never intend to pay any of it back, but had to lay out $5,000,000 in legal fees and bribes, so that you would never get convicted of fraud or embezzlement.
