3. I disagree with them about the asparagus (which does) and the salsa (which

does not) belong on a crudites platter.

Other than that, great tweets. And, of course, they got the name of the store correct.

4. Do you cook the asparagus?

raw asparagus can be difficult for a crudite platter

5. No more than broccoli. Even when asparagus is cooked,

it is good when lightly cooked and still very crisp.

26. I have put blanched asparagus on a veggie platter.

I don't refer to it as crudites, which I take to mean raw vegetables.

I also don't dip it in salsa or guacamole.

29. No, I would not dip asparagus

in salsa for sure, and probably not in guacamole.

Maybe sour cream or ranch dip, though.

It's good with asparagus.

35. Sounds good. I am too lazy for that.

I use plain yogurt as a sour cream substitute and season it with just a little salt.

Sauté it in butter until just tender.

15. We steam it for 1.5 - 4 minutes, depending on thickness so it's

still mostly raw, slightly tender but doesn't droop suggestively when a group of people on their second drinks are waving it around as they talk. Our single favorite way to eat it -- as a crudite, 3 syllables. No endorsement of this creep.

In a strainer over boiling water. I like it best at 3 minutes. My wife likes it that t3xture, too.
Cooked through, but still crispy/crunchy.

steamed or sauteed but keep that flavor!

27. That sounds really good! We enjoy Bloody Marys anyway.

What flavorings do you put in your pickling mix? The only thing I've done is added some spears to the space opening up in a jar of salt-fermented mustard greens. I recall we enjoyed them, but maybe a Caesar would have made them a must-have.

Can you buy clamato juice where you live? Try it instead of tomato juice and lime wedge, spice as usual. You will never go back.

22. I agree but also have never seen asparagus harvested like that. I lived in an area

in Canada that grows asparagus and pickers would lay down on a moving platform and harvest by using the knife to cut and pick as they pass over.

So I took a job picking beans. It was the longest, most boring, and back-breaking thing I can ever remember doing. I lasted one day.

21. What was that

bag of carrots 5lb bag? My husband buys large bags of carrots at the store for $2. $2 for broccoli sounds about right. Would never use asparagus on crudité plate. Guacamole-make it yourself. It’s cheaper.

9. Every time I go to Bakersfield I stand in awe watching these amazing people work in the heat.

I want their children to get a good education in our public schools and for them to be paid a decent wage. I’ll work harder if I have to pay a little more for our amazing veggies in this country.
I went to China once and their veggies suck!

19. Same here. Long ago we had a lot of Hispanic friends, and

the older women at gatherings would talk about their years in the fields. They all had their own bathrooms by then, that problem living on only as memories, but ruined knees and backs were permanent.

25. They didn't show the part

That tomato harvester is working so fast because part of his compensation is piece work. One he fills those baskets he will literally run to the truck where his tomatoes are assessed and packed, then he’ll run back to his row

I live in strawberry country and watch this high speed field work going on all the time.

Oh, and you know why they wear hoodies and scarves even on sweltering days? Pesticides and fertilizers sprayed on the crops.

Brutal and backbreaking doesn’t begin to describe it.
