The Atlantic: MaLago search put DeSantis in a Box...

Staff writer Elaine Godfrey weighs in on how the FBI search provided DeSantis with an opportunity to "set himself apart." But he's "parked his wagon next to all the others encircling Trump." The article is fairly long and David Jolly contributes his opinions. But one paragraph rankled me:

Godfrey writes, "Every Republican politician, including any potential challengers, would be forced to choose between defending Trump and siding with Joe Biden’s corrupt, leftist 'deep state.'” “The prosecution of Donald Trump would be the most catalyzing moment available to the former president,” Jolly said. “That’s a harder case for DeSantis to get into the race.”

Intended or not, the sentence appears to label Biden's administration as corrupt and leftist, a RW slur. Perhaps if quotes had enclosed "corrupt, leftist deep state," it would've been more palatable.

Replace, sure. But he would fully embrace everything Trump supposedly stands for.
