Ive covered extremism and violent ideologies around the world over my career. Have never come across a political force more nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible than todays Republicans. Nothing close.

(455 posts)I really hope Gen (ret) Hayden would make a spot for TLP, something like: "I never sought public attention during my career, so let me introduce myself: I'm Gen. Hayden. I earned my rank in the US Air Force, then directed the CIA for 3 years under President Bush. In my experience there has been nothing so dangerous or threatening to our American freedoms as today's Republican Party. A vote for any Republican is a vote against American values."

He needs to speak at the Democratic and the Republican conventions in 2024. He'd need an armed guard at the Republican convention. They don't like facts, truth or mirrors.

NJCher
(35,658 posts)like maybe 50%. So perhaps you could revised that 80 million in your subject heading to "40 million."
This is as of July 12, and that was prior to the very damaging information that he has top secret nuclear information in his basement.
Half of Republicans wouldn't vote for Trump in primary, poll finds
https://www.axios.com/2022/07/12/trump-2024-presidential-election-gop-primary
from the NY Times:
Half of G.O.P. Voters Ready to Leave Trump Behind, Poll Finds

So please, if you're going to post negative, discouraging posts, at least be up to date in your assertions.

(9,415 posts)Republican, I stand by my numbers.
NJCher
(35,658 posts)where you got that number. What is it based on?

(35,658 posts)37,000,000. To amend your subject line with reference to trump voters, then, it should read:
Prior to the damaging revelations about top secret information in his basement, 37Million voters would not give a rats ass - buckle up buttercups, the future is not going to be fun
And in the dialogue box, it might show some integrity if you mentioned:
That 24% is the part of the electorate that theoretically, based on polls, still supports him.
Upcoming polls may possibly show a diminishing of his support, due to the revelations that top secret information was taken from the White House and that it was stored in an insecure area of Mar-a-Lago.
--------------
Now, we had a total of 81,000,000 + 74,000,000 voters in the last election. That is 155,000,000 voters. Trump's 74,000,000 is theoretically down to 37,000,000 due to his latest foolish act which will probably render this discussion moot because he will be in court.
If only these 155,000,000 voters go to the polls and vote like they did in the last election, trump's support is then around 24%.
Once again, I stress that the turning away from trump figures are from July 12, which is prior to the damaging revelations about the top secret information, which broke on around Aug. 12.
Even August 12 surveys are unlikely to show the full extent to which even trump voters have turned away, due to the fact that the fallout has been most damaging in the the last four or five days.
Finally, do you still stand by your statement that "the future is not going to be fun?" Because I don't know of any president who has won an election with 24% support.
And quite frankly, I think it's fun watching characters like trump go down.
