Congressman Vern Buchanan had over $2.3 million in PPP loans forgiven.
Rep. Vern Buchanan
@VernBuchanan
As a blue-collar kid who worked his way through college, I know firsthand the sacrifices people make to receive an education.
Bidens reckless, unilateral student loan giveaway is unfair to the 87 percent of Americans without student loan debt and those who played by the rules.

Congressman Markwayne Mullin had over $1.4 million in PPP loans forgiven.
Markwayne Mullin
@RepMullin
We do not need farmers and ranchers, small business owners, and teachers in Oklahoma paying the debts of Ivy League lawyers and doctors across the U.S.
This places undue burden on those already suffering due to the weight of Bidens failed economic policy.

(34,600 posts)Why the fuck were these assholes allowed to take PPP money? And, for those amounts? Why the hell did Vern Buchanan need $2.3 million in aid????
TomSlick
(12,836 posts)A PPP loan of $2.3 Million means either a large payroll or the applicant lied under oath in the application.
The government is investigating whether large PPP loans were fraudulent. The statute of limitations was recently expanded to 10 years for any violations to allow for the number of investigations that are on-going or anticipated.

(24,675 posts)I sort of assumed that once they took office that would not be allowed and at the least, the business would transfer to another entity to run until said congressperson left office.
I guess I was wrong?

(12,348 posts)I posted this at about 2:20 pm today.
"The following filthy rich all had their PPP loans forgiven: Kushner had over $3 Million forgiven, Kanye West had over $2 Million forgiven, Jay-Z had over $2 Million forgiven, Diddy had almost $2 Million forgiven, Khloe Kardashian had almost $1.5 Million forgiven, Jeff Koons had over $1 Million forgiven, Reese Witherspoon had almost $1 Million forgiven, Tom Brady had almost $1 Million forgiven.
Funny how we don't hear screaming about these loans being forgiven after so many have been able to get by with NO PPP loans and paid for the cost of the pandemic themselves."

The fighting back is great and all, but why on earth did these people need these gigantic loans? I thought they were supposed to be for small business owners that suffered greatly during the shutdown.

(1,654 posts)I don't know the rules of Tweeting because I don't, but this should be kept alive - with the last few words of (amount thousands or millions) and LOAN FORGIVEN emphasized. Who is really placing the undue burden on the taxpayer? Are they really that upset about the loan forgiveness for education?

(7,898 posts)But I know they have no shame. And in the interest of full transparency, although my Parent PLUS loans are more than what Empty Greene had forgiven, I don't qualify for this forgiveness because we're above the income ceiling...and I think it's appropriate that forgiveness goes to those who aren't as fortunate as we are. But again, in the interest of transparency, I'm a Federal worker, so eventually, presumably, I'll qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness and I'll be grateful and happy for that.

PPP loans were to keep businesses afloat and employees paid for a period during the pandemic. What kind of businesses did they have? Did they really use the loans for the purposes intended?
