It is offered, not for any say on the merits of Reality Winner and what happened there. I am linking it because this website has listed all the docs involved in her case. They are all linked to the docs.

You can see the tremendous amount of filings involved with just ONE document. Over on the left you can see the date timeline for the activity in this case.

This is my only comment: she got 5 years for one doc, which was a plea bargain. I read somewhere that if she didn't plead, she ran a real risk of a double digit sentence. She served four years and spent another on house arrest.

6. I am not sure in this instance

that we are looking at two different systems. We have never had a fricking PRESIDENT charged with what is perilously close to espionage. His minions are parsing it that he could do whatever he wanted; there is that one statute but it probably isn't meant to insulate him from culpability.

Anyone who has money can carry on their own defense as long as possible. From what I can see, Trump isn't pulling from the top of the lawyer heaps. Because he isn't yet indicted, he can't get a public defender. So, he has to make do with whatever lawyer is willing to put their career on the line. But, he is entitled to a defense.

I thought that someone might find it useful to view a case charged under 18 USC 793. The date of June 2017 through Aug 2018 is the timeline it took to settle the matter with a plea bargain. Trump will certainly be a big fish wriggling on the hook. It's going to be ugly.
