https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-mar-a-lago-criminal-investigations-government-and-politics-4ee554f467252929f96c70d42a93a05dWASHINGTON (AP) Fourteen of the 15 boxes recovered from former President Donald Trumps Florida estate early this year contained classified documents, many of them top secret, mixed in with miscellaneous newspapers, magazines and personal correspondence, according to an FBI affidavit released Friday.
No space at Trumps Mar-a-Lago estate was authorized for the storage of classified material, according to the court papers, which laid out the FBIs rationale for searching the property this month, including probable cause to believe that evidence of obstruction will be found.
The 32-page affidavit heavily redacted to protect the safety of witnesses and law enforcement officials and the integrity of the ongoing investigation offers the most detailed description to date of the government records being stored at Mar-a-Lago long after Trump left the White House. It also reveals the gravity of the governments concerns that the documents were there illegally.

(42,770 posts)thought he could do absolutely anything in business then in govt.
This is where he was served very badly by legal counsel in my opinion. He probably told his counsel to fight this document demand. And they actually helped him break the law.
I still think that mixing top secret documents with magazines and pictures adds more credibility to the notion that he was hoarding as HIS stuff vs any secret plan to sell secrets. Although it could be in the back of his mind.

(11,238 posts)had a long standing history of casual disdain and disregard for security while in the WH (not only documents, but briefings, organization, apparatus, communication, assets, tech - pretty much the whole schmear)
So, yes - a complete cluster___ in hasty exit. But precipitated by years of flagrant mishandling and blatant disdain ...
(coupled with subordinates that allowed him to break the law every day)

(21,528 posts)The sounds like something you would do if you were trying to hide what was in the boxes, which goes to intent to commit a crime.
Unless they are going to argue he just pushed everything off a desk into a box!
Or, if you want to pass a document off inconspicuously, slide it in-between the pages of a magazine or newspaper....

(42,770 posts)BUT he knew ! He had gone through the first batch last year! So if the boxes were similar, he knew there were important documents mixed in with magazines and papers.

(111,051 posts)...you were going to mix them with other boxes and move them to Maralago. It was a clever plan - he just got caught.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)He knew they were in the after going thru the boxes at the end of 2021. But what matters is that he didn't give them all back! Most flagrant sign of guilt.

(111,051 posts)He knew what was in the boxes and he knew what boxes they were in. Otherwise, why would he not accept any help from his most trusted aides?
I think he hoarded all the documents he wanted in his residence bedroom at the White House and he requested that a lock be put on the door. When he was forced to leave, he packed the boxes the way he wanted and intermingled them with all the other boxes. With all the clippings and photos and letters, they all would look nondescript.
Then he moved them to Maralago and we don't know what happened to them once they were there?
