(6,678 posts)said in an interview on I think NPR that Trump was known to be mobbed up. He cited specifics. I thought for sure the news media would be all over this, and that the candidacy would end shortly thereafter because, after all, who would support a known mobster for the highest office in the land?
Boy, was I wrong. The media never adequately pursued or reported on Trump's criminal associations. The people who voted for him wouldn't have cared, anyway, and hence the GQPee turned a blind eye because they found a front man the rubes loved who would enact their vile agenda. Disgusting.
My point is that he could and should have been stopped then, if not earlier.

(17,615 posts)Advertisers and the media know exactly who to target with their programming and ads. It's their job to be able to identify that. The people who voted for him saw exactly what the media wanted them to see. There has always been a subset of voters who vote merely by what they see on the TV or hear in an advertisement. They are lazy voters and citizens. They take no responsibility for educating themselves when it comes time to vote.
The best example of that is how he didn't show up for almost a half-hour and the tv cameras just continued showing the empty podium. Or how he was able to railroad the moderators of the debates with Hillary.

But that didn't matter, there were always a way to see commercials and whatnot. So, the first time I ever saw or heard him I immediately was disgusted. He just gave me the creeps!
From his big pr boosts and the attention he was getting, he then "bought" a Beauty Pageant where he spied on teenagers, and made friends with Putin. Then to attract the weirdos he got involved in the World Wrestling Con.
He knew how to build his base. He proved it and improved it during the campaign. Stalking Sec. Clinton on debate stage. Calling on his best friend Putin to hack our government back then by "finding her emails" and no one did anything about it. In fact the head of the FBI also approved of targeting Hillary. Gee whiz Mr Comey, Did you even vet him? Did your department give Putin a handout for our Democracy?
But yeah, look at how successful they are in brainwashing their base has been. Church goers are easily manipulated as well, easy targets, and most are already brainwashed.

(21,162 posts)'...the Federal sentencing system already contains the two procedural features that were lacking in the State systems struck down in Furman v. Georgia. These procedures are a bifurcated trial, in which the sentencing hearing is held separately from the conviction phase, and the preparation of a presentence report focusing on the particular defendant and the particular crime. In addition, the cruel and unusual punishment clause of the eighth amendment does not, of itself, prohibit Congress from providing the death penalty. Therefore, capital punishment for espionage and other serious Federal crimes is constitutional.'

Based on just the few links in the OP it is clear that treachery, greed, corruption, collusion are completely ON BRAND for Trump and family. There are probably hundreds of articles and quotes that would add to this conclusion but that are all but ignored by media outlets. It sometimes takes DUrs such as NDog to reach back into the past and illuminate the present and future...but this doesn't reach the people it needs to reach.

(4,370 posts)From Wikipedia:
...
For decades many people including the Rosenbergs' sons (Michael and Robert Meeropol) maintained that Julius and Ethel were innocent of spying on their country and were victims of Cold War paranoia. The extent of the Rosenbergs' crimes came to light, however, when the U.S. government declassified information about them after the fall of the Soviet Union. This declassified information included a trove of decoded Soviet cables (code-name: Venona), which detailed Julius's role as a courier and recruiter for the Soviets, and information about Ethel's role as an accessory who helped recruit her brother David into the spy ring and did clerical tasks such as typing up documents that Julius then passed to the Soviets. In 2008, the National Archives of the United States published most of the grand jury testimony related to the prosecution of the Rosenbergs.
Emphasis added.
In MHO, it's just a matter of time before info about Canteloupe Calligula's numerous crimes becomes available, and it will be just as damning -- if not worse -- than what the Rosenbergs were charged with and convicted of.
At the very least, he should be arrested, arraigned and required to stand trial!

In the interest of full disclosure, I have family in Taiwan and am very concerned about what he shared with Xi Jinping about that island nation.

BTW in the past 1.5 years Saudi Arabia (MBS) has cleaned up members of the Saudi Royal Family who not loyal to MBS (Mohammed bin Salman)
and in Russia and around the world Russian Oligarchs who were not seen as loyal to Vlad Putin have wound up dead. It looks like Donald Trump might
have sold or passed on US intel onto MBS and Vlad that the took with him when he left the White House.
America has had 3 Americans who were convicted of espionage @ the levels that Trump might be at. And they are:
The Rosenbergs (executed) FBI agent Robert Hanssen (15 life terms in the US Super Max in Colorado)

(77,319 posts)Yes they did. BTW When the Soviet Union fell and the west got to see some of the KGB

how many people are now dead because of the intel that Donny and Jared gave the Saudis

2 more crimes in a crime wave that started with Trump getting into the race with Russian help.

President Trump has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, including on at least one occasion taking possession of the notes of his own interpreter and instructing the linguist not to discuss what had transpired with other administration officials, current and former U.S. officials said.
Trump did so after a meeting with Putin in 2017 in Hamburg that was also attended by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. U.S. officials learned of Trumps actions when a White House adviser and a senior State Department official sought information from the interpreter beyond a readout shared by Tillerson.
The constraints that Trump imposed are part of a broader pattern by the president of shielding his communications with Putin from public scrutiny and preventing even high-ranking officials in his own administration from fully knowing what he has told one of the United States main adversaries.
continues -
U.S. officials said there is no detailed record, even in classified files, of Trumps face-to-face interactions with the Russian leader at five locations over the past two years. Such a gap would be unusual in any presidency, let alone one that Russia sought to install through what U.S. intelligence agencies have described as an unprecedented campaign of election interference.
Where is the interpreter, Marina Gross now?

Like between wiseguys Pauly and Vinny? Listen, with a seasoned ear, to "two friends chatting in a bar," and you'll hear boss-ordered whacks and all sorts of things--all without saying any incriminating words. And sometimes you have to listen to what *isn't* being said.
