It serves 3 purposes. A threat. Notice to the rightwing goons to launch a spree of violence when the eventual indictments and arrests occur. Finally it's a campaign move, it solidifies their voting block.

We need to remember though that mishandling of classified documents is punished on a sliding scale. Powerful white dude will get a slap on the wrist (David Patraeus), pretty much anyone else jail time (Ed Lin as a single example). Remember that the GOP wanted to "lock her up" for how Hillary handled emails, so we should not expect to see anything approaching equal treatment under the law from these folks.

On the other hand, I suppose we can be thankful that at least they're being honest about their double standards now.
