General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIts starting to dawn on me, how a couple of my MAGA relatives have been dealing with the news
about their fuhrer's onslaught of legal problems. THEYRE NOT LISTENING TO THE NEWS!
Now, mind you, the couple that I'm still on speaking terms with, aren't among the ones who are threatening to riot in the streets. But their hero's transgressions ARE causing them some misgivings.
And they have told me bluntly, that "I quit listening to the news, its too depressing."
It may spell trouble for Fox, but, more importantly, it may spell trouble for the Republican Party. If their constituents aren't watching the news, then their messaging is not getting out. If they can't get out their message, then those constituents are going to sit home on election day.
Anyway, that's what I have observed, and that's my prediction. Not a riot in the streets, which some leaders seem to be encouraging, but a general desertion of the voting booths.

Gotta keep him and them on the ropes. I'm looking forward to "season 2" of the Jan 6 committee hearings.

If you try to remind them of that box of Trump memorabilia that's probably going to be stuffed in the back of the closet, garaged, or attic, they just won't have any clue as to why they have it. Must have been something their nutty uncle or slacker kid left for them to store and they never got rid it.
And they'll get all defensive if you press them on it.
Seen it before with some former rabid Nixon supporters long post Watergate.

I remember when Obama was in office, just loving to hear him talk in full sentences after years of *ush talking nonsense.

Biden is doing SO MUCH to unbreak this country. He's like Atlas holding us up and still using one hand and a foot to move things around. No wonder he's tired.
Me too.

(14,531 posts)he loses even more followers. My GUESS is he has lost 20% since J6. Some will stay republikkklan and some won't. That is why we have to flood the polls in Roevember. They claim a red wave... Let's show them they are really a red tide and this country wants nothing to do with them.
I personally can't wait for the republican party to get small enough to down it in a bathtub.

(1,406 posts)I used to get those stupid Chain Emails from Magat friends all the time and I would debunk them in a reply with facts and invite them to have me school them any day. Telling them that is what good Leaders and Americans do, is teach the truth and inform others.
Lately I have not received any emails in over two months. I periodically ask them where they are and how the feel about Biden kicking their asses daily. All Quiet on the Puke front.

He always had reservations and I doubt he voted for Trump...voted for Hillary the first time and probably the Libertarian last time. He even admitted that Biden has got more legislation through than any recent precedent. Also, the guy
one street down removed his shrine to Trump on his porch. One day it was there and the next day it was gone.

(58,654 posts)If they're not listening to "news" then they are not getting fed the propaganda, because their obvious news sources have been those praising Hair Furor, not criticizing him. Now that even elements of Faux Noise have been putting out reality adjacent reports of what trump did, they're getting stressed and therefore turning it off. And if they eschew voting, good for America.
Maybe in some time, they will be ready for some reality. Maybe?

(12,536 posts)Forever, a lot of GOP women could be pro choice & never really worry about Roe being overturned. NOW they see what's happened & I believe a good many of them will speak in the voting booth.
Anecdotally I already know of two trump voters who are voting Dem this cycle because of it. A 62yr old man and a 36 yr old woman. And BOTH very Christian people.
If I know some, we ALL do. And they'll add up

(15,539 posts)are that some of these people do not want to be on the side of a loser/traitor to his country, so they are starting to lay low so that when he's indicted they can pretend they never voted for him. Many of us remember how Nixon won in a landslide and after his criminality was exposed, you couldn't find a Nixon voter for love or money. No one would admit to having voted for him.

I'm not really making fun of them meanly. Just decent people who are nervous that the social attitudes in the country are changing in ways they don't understand. The sad joke is, they thought of Trump as a great Christian!

(6,395 posts)Praising of Trump or criticism of Biden is pretty much gone.
The GOP has nothing to be energized about. Everything they are throwing against the wall isn't sticking. When they do think they have an issue, Trump does something or something about him that happened before comes up and totally derails their messaging. Then they are left defending him.
The RNC told Trump not to announce running until after the mid-terms as to not screw up their plans. But he still managed to do that anyway.

It's not a popularity contest, after all.
Of course, if you are a MAGAT whose idea of the 'good old days' is recent history when Trump showed a brief flash of promise, and your vote is based on that, then you are beyond help. Please stay home at voting time.

Every so often I'll pop on various folks' Facebook pages (mainly acquaintances from high school who are right-wingers and I only see at reunions and am not close with. However, I have let go of a couple of closer friendships because of their right-wing ways. Thank God my relatives are progressives) - Anyway, all I see are pictures of animals, grand-kids, etc. I haven't been seeing the vicious political posts like I have in the past.
I TOTALLY hope they stay home on election day!
