Hillary's emails are back in the news again ... but there's a problem

Thanks to a great call into the Stephanie miller show today, here's a refresher course of what happened

At today’s Oversight Committee hearing, Director Comey provided significant new information about these emails that debunked this Republican conspiracy theory. First, Director Comey explained that he was talking about only three emails out of the 30,000 his office reviewed, or 1/100 of 1% of the emails. Second, Director Comey explained that these three specific emails were not properly marked as classified pursuant to federal guidelines and manuals. They did not have a classification header, and they did not list the original classifier, the agency and office of origin, the reason for classification, or the date for declassification. Instead they included only a single “(c)” for “confidential” on one paragraph lower down in the text. Finally, Director Comey explained that it would have been a “reasonable inference” for Secretary Clinton to “immediately” conclude that these emails were not in fact classified. Here is the exchange between Director Comey and Rep. Matthew Cartwright:

Rep. Cartwright: Those three documents with the little “c”s on them, were they properly documented? Were they properly marked according to the manual?

Director Comey: No.

Rep. Cartwright: According to the manual, and I ask unanimous consent to enter this into the record, Mr. Chairman. According to the manual, if you’re going to classify something, there has to be a header on the document, right?

Director Comey: Correct.

Rep. Cartwright: Was there a header on the three documents that we’ve discussed today that had the little “c” in the text someplace?

Director Comey: No, there were three e-mails. The “c” was in the body in the text, but there was no header on the email or in the text.

Rep. Cartwright: So if Secretary Clinton really were an expert at what's classified and what’s not classified and we're following the manual, the absence of a header would tell her immediately that those three documents were not classified. Am I correct in that?

Director Comey: That would be a reasonable inference.

In addition, the State Department spokesperson made clear yesterday that these emails, which discussed call information for the Secretary, included these “c”s by mistake, and the information was not in fact classified

If Democrats submit a legislative proposal that is professionally researched, footnoted, peer reviewed by "experts" and detailed, and Retrumplicans submit a single page proposal in crayon, wrapped in a Donnie Dipshit Depends and served in a dirty ashtray, the media will treat both proposals as if they are rational serious proposals.

If Secretary Clinton had taken just one sheet of TS/SCI material home with her, the media would demand she be hung for treason. If it's a Retrumplican with cases upon cases of TS/SCI material, the story shifts to coverage of how he can get away with it.

You'd think the so called liberal media would counter with the facts above when the right makes these false equivalencies. I remembered exactly those numbers as the outcome, yet I've heard so called liberal reporters saying "...unlike Hilary which had a 100 out of 100,000 emails classified" as the reason Trump's offense was worse. Too lazy to look up actual facts so at least I know I wasn't crazy in remembering the 3 improperly marked classified.

TFG stole physical documents belonging to the government and stored them at MAL, where thousands of people pass through. As bad as it is that so many of them were marked as classified, it wouldn’t matter if none of them were.

the legal difference between the emails and Trump's boxes. There is also the fact that Clinton totally cooperated with the investigation and Trump lied, stone-walled and delayed for 6 months.

Is why now this close to the midterms. Well that brings up an excellent comparison between the two situations. The FBI didn't broadcast that they had a search warrant. They went into Maralogo in plain clothes and searched. It was Trump himself who broadcasted it. In contrast, it was Comey who disregarded a FBI established policy and announced the investigation then re-announced the reopening of the investigation just 10 days before the election and interfering and handed Trump the election. She cooperated and complied with her search warrant and handed over all relevant materials while Trump stalled for a year.
