Last cycle it was brought up all the time, that Obama might underperform in actuals to polling based upon some people being closet racists. In reality Obama overperformed.
Just a small sign of progress.

(8,419 posts)I would guess the talking heads looking for a way to deny reality would fall back to the canard.

The rich white guy with the rich white running mate and the comfortable conservative jibba-jabba lost last time. Handily, there was no real contest. And this time, the rich white guy with the rich white running mate and the uncomfortably extremist conservative jibba-jabba, is visibly doing worse.
There's also taking into account the large differences; California in 1982 is nowhere near the United States in 2012, either in terms of demographics or society. A rich white guy with comforting conservativism has not just swept the national elections, racism is not as strong a motivating force in the electorate, and even if it were, nonwhite voters are turning out in much greater numbers.

(60,536 posts)lots of white folks voting for the President. I have nothing but gut intuition about this, I've read a lot of OP's, here at DU, written by people that are shocked to learn their neighbors, relatives, in-laws, etc., all described as Republicans, who say they are voting for the President based solely on the fact the family members cannot stand Romney or do not trust him. I have a few more reasons to believe in the reverse Bradley Effect but I'm betting the Prez comes in with 53% of the vote to Mitt's 45 to 47%
